I am 60 and still hit it 285-290 straight or slight draw; when I was 40, I hit it 300+ with persimmons, when I was in my teens, I hit it 325+
Always a straight driver, I never bothered with grip; its all about how you square the clubface.
Seems I was not clear. My left hand with driver is shaft running diagonally from fat pad to index finger and slightly strong but the right hand is the speed hand, so for extra distance, I place my right hand so knuckles almost face the ground. This allows the right hand to turn the club over with lots of speed.
Grip pressure nice and light, lots of clubhead speed.
Look at most long drive champs and bubba watson, jbholmes, even villegas, their right hand is almost knuckles down
