  • driving ability gone!!

i've just started becoming serious about golf and i love everything about it. when i first started, my drive was amazing, i could hit 200 yds. easily, but my short game sucked so i worked with that. then my entire driving ability just vanished, i was lucky to hit 150. Then i got some new clubs and my driving was even better than before and it stayed pretty good for a while. Now i am in a slump with driving again. I don't know what to do, but my consistency is way off and i don't know how to fix it. I need help!!

    Re: driving ability gone!!

you need to at least describe your ball flight, posting a swing would be much better.

Sounds as if you went to a more compact swing.

        Hi mate.
As Mike said, you need to post more details about your ball flight .

          Re: driving ability gone!!

This is the problem most new golfers go through, they start off with some initial success and then have a bad game, this triggers doubt and some confusion resulting in making varied adjustments that sometimes work but then fail again.

The reality is that there is no quick way to become a good golfer unless you are very gifted. You will need to take lessons, practice what you are taught at a range, work on creating a good repeatable swing that is grooved into your muscle memory, go out and play golf and work hard on all the aspects of the game (Long, medium and short) but enjoy the experience and rewards that golf brings.

Finally: never be content with quick fixes they will ultimately fail again. I hope you have a great golfing future.

Can you describe your setup, i.e. how wide your stance, ball position, grip etc.

                Re: driving ability gone!!

I'm in total agreement with the other posts. Listen to these guys, they know what they are talking about.

What I did when I first started playing was to hit the driving range with one club a day starting with the shortest iron.(sw or pw) I made sure I was comfortable with each club and the distances before I moved to the next club. Once I was through every club except driver, I took the whole set, except the driver, back to the range and worked my way up through the clubs again hitting a few balls with each one. After that I brought my driver out and hit a couple buckets. IMO you learn on your irons how to take a good swing and once you've got that you will naturally hit your driver pretty good. Also, it is a good way to get to know what the average distance is for each club in your bag. Too many times I've seen guys start out taking only their driver to the range then when they got on the course, they didn't know what to do with their irons and woods.

Anyway, post video or pictures of you swing here and these guys will surely give you good advice on how to fix it. Even though I played decent golf for the past five years, they've helped bring my game to another level. I can even hit 80 now without taking a bunch of mulligans. lol
