  • really low poor drives

    Hi guys,

My game is better with my irons than it's ever been, but it seems to be at the expense of my driving. My driving is very inconsistent at the moment, often snap hook very low and not very far. I occasionally get a reasonable one away, but even when I do it's very often a very low hit that just runs along quite a way because the ground is dry. When it comes to winter I'm worried that I'm only going to be able to hit the driver 150yrds! My irons have an average/high ball flight, but what can I do to get a higher ball flight with my drives? my driver has 9.5 loft, which isn't that high agreed, but a few of my friends have the same driver loft, but hit the ball much higher.

    Thanks,

    Sam

Hi Sam, I have had the same problem with distance but like Bill said when I slow down and make contact not trying to kill the ball it seems distance is there not as much as some people but it doesn't hurt my iron play

        hi sam
its so important to hit the sweet spot with the driver that i never use 100% 80/90% at most, i can his sweet spot most times and control it more.

Ok, I will try and lighten the swing and not hit it too hard, hopefully that will make a difference. I never use a full swing on driver, irons on anything however. I only ever use 3/4 swing for all shots, so I'm never over-swinging or trying to kill it, but maybe I'm compensating for my 3/4 swing by swinging the club harder for that 3/4!

I find that the cause is often that your hands are too far in front of the ball at address. This causes you to hit good iron shots with a downward swing but bad woods beause the face is delofted and it is difficult to sweep the ball with a more ascending blow.

causes off the top of my head, A stong grip and ball could be too far back in your stance, too flat a back swing and over the top on the down swing. A flying rear elbow which makes you come out and around your hip and slows down accleration of arms which flips the club into impact rapidly closing the face.. Inproper weight shift or lack of coil in the back swing, so when you swing down you have to jump at the ball with the upper body in order to get over to your left side. which leaves club behind and pulls across the line

my dad had same problem, he hit his irons perfect, hard and super long cause his club face was delofted so much and he would use that swing with his driver

try putting your hands even or a little back of the ball t address like donaau sid
