    Re: hook master

    Hi!

I have/had the same problem myself. I used to slice before, but after "learning" the "correct" inside-out swing I got rid of the slice, but got hooking insted.

What I have noticed is that my grip which I think is neutral, really isn't.
When I address and aim the club at my target the toe points where it should, but after a wiggle it can be closed as much as 25 degrees. I then have to straighten the club by turning it more clockwise in my hands, wiggle again and do the same thing over and over untill it points at the target after a wiggle.
This takes alot (20-30 seconds) time and slows don't the game alot, but atleast I get straight shots. I would like to get rid of this ofcourse, but still it's better than searching for the ball for 5 minutes. (Anyone know of a good practice how to get a neutral grip? )

I also hook when I stand to close to the ball. I feel it when I swing back that I'm not standing correct, so my hands take charge and try to guide the club to the ball which leads to disaster. Luckily this is easy to cure (for me atleast) by feeling how well balanced I am when wiggling att address. Just need to concentrate....

    Hope some of this helps.

P.S I hope wiggling means moving the club back and fourth at address or I've made a complede fool out of myself.

Can you describe your ball flight to me? I'd like to help but to give accurate advice, I need to know what the ball is doing in flight. My years of experience has taught me one thing: ball flight, ball flight, ball flight ...

          BrianW,

I just tried out the grip you mentioned in your link "a view on the grip". I tried it here at home and it feels more comfortable then the grip I've been using. I've tried a few swings here in my backyard and from looking at the clubface through impact it seems to be squaring up better then previously. I can hardly wait to get to the driving range and try it out. Thanks.

                Re: hook master

i also have a hook when i am swinging bad.....i naturally move the ball from right to left from slightly coming over the top on my swing.....

things i look for when i am hooking:
                1. reverse pivot- on my backswing i weight shift to the front which causes me to go across the imaginary line on the left side

                2. swinging too much with my arms.......what i do to correct this is soften my grip......SLOW MY SWING DOWN....(and even if it does move from right to left it is more controllable and might put me maybe 3 yards off fairway)

                3. moving head across ball- i make sure that when i have the 1st 2 reasons down....i keep my head behind the ball and dont look up until i follow through with my arms

                CAUTIOUSLY responding........

hey graham...you sound like your exactly what im looking for!!....a professional! Im having a real hard time with my driver and 3wood. After i have made contact with the ball it will either take off straight, just right of centre but as the ball continues its flights it shoots way way WAY off to the right. Sometimes even finishing up at a 90degree angle of which im aiming!! which really doesnt do much for my confidence at the range making me reluctant to reach for my driver out the bag. Distance doesnt seem to be a problem its jus getting it down the middle thats really bugging me. Any tips or drills you could give me to improve my driving?

                    Re: hook master

Hi Martin, thank you for the compliment.

If the ball starts off straight or slightly to the right, we know your swing path is fine. The ball curving right towards the end is the result of an open club face. It only starts to move right as it slows purely from momentum forces. As it slows the effect of side spin is more pronounced.

To solve that there are 2 ways of doing it, one simple way and one more complicated. Let's start off the with simple solution but feeling the club square or close at impact and through the release.

To do this is simpler than people think. Try it with a slow practice swing first and then speed up ... At impact feel as if the palm of your right hand rolls over through impact. Make the right palm the focus of your feeling ... Also make sure your left arm and wrist for a line through impact.

Sounds complicated but once you make some rehersal swings feeling your right palm roll over (do that first) and then when that's working work on getting your left arm and wrist to form a line ...

Once you do that and start to hit golf balls you'll either hit it straight or hook it. As time passes, you can reduce the amount of roll over to manipulate the ball flight.

                    Any problems - post again.

                        Hey guys,

Was on here last night looking for some help with my driving. Had a hard time keeping my tee shots slicing waaaaaay right and after some simple but VERY EFFECTIVE tips from TEACHINGPRO as well as raising my tee higher off the ground my drives were going straight and true down the centre of the driving range. Such simple slight changes and it added an instant 70-80yds. Thanx guys for all your help should be hopefully posting a video of my swing soon so some of you's can help me perfect my swing and improve even more.

                        TeachingPro...LEGEND

                        cheers guys!!!...Martin

I used to hook alot too, now I can draw or fade whenever I want to and hit straight when I want too. Has anyone tried Butch harmons laser trainer? I did and it really is a good training aid, when I first tried it I was surprised with how off plane I was. If your on plane you cant hit offline shots unless your clubhead is all screwed up. Anyway this equipment really did help me to understand the plane that the club must follow and now I can shape shots! Pretty cool, hope this helps.

I just looked at it on the net, sounds good. That's interesting as it uses a principal that I suggest to people with swing plane and path faults. I suggest they keep the butt end of the club pointing at the extended ball to target line as long as possible (Except for the short period through impact when it is pointing to your centre.
