  • lost driving distance

    hi.
I used to hit avg of 280-290 metres off the tee. Using a Taylormade r540xd. I then went and spent the majority of my practice time on my short game. And now have lost distance on my drives and slice my 3 wood, 5 wood and 3 iron very badly. Drive still goes dead straight though..?????????????????????

    Can anyone help.??

    Re: lost driving distance

what are you rnew driver disntances and current 5i distance? what kind of slice is it, a pull slice, a strait then slice, a push slice?
just a guess.... maybe becuae of you short game you have switched to a bit steeper swing and maybe you are hitting the ball on the downswing off the tee giving it high backspin thus killing distance

as far as your 3w sliceing but not driver.... sounds like a bit of a mental issue maybe, it is harder to do with thoose certain clubs, but when people have problems with clubs i would say have friend hand you the club and don't look at what it is and just hit it normal..... but it is kindof easy to tell the difference between a 3i and a 3w and a driver.

I don't think I would do anything different at this point except put more practice into your long game. If you were hitting that well before, it should come back. Was there anything different you were incorporating into your short game swing that could be the culprit. As always, review the basics for the longer clubs, grip - make sure it is strong enough, alignment - make sure you are square to the target, and stance - ball should be in line with the left armpit - more foward than for the short irons. Hope this helps.
