  • driving distance --please help!!

I am having some trouble with my golf swing. I believe that my hands are not staying ahead of the ball at impact. My ball flight tends to be a slight fade and after today's tournament, I realized that I'm loosing a lot of distance, leaving me long shots into greens. Another issue that may be causing this problem is that my left foot (im right-handed) is point toward the target after I follow-through. This is not normal from what I've seen. Please give me some advice on how I can start to hit more of a penetrating ball flight instead of a high left to right fade. My driver has a stiff flex and is a 9.5 degree driver. Thank you!

Your swing plane is probably not wide enough. The wider the plane the faster the clubhead speed. As far as your foot is concerned, keep it stable but applying weight on it during weight transfer. Stability on the legs are important because that is were one of the power sources are. Or just take up ice hockey and learn how to slap shot. The forearms get plenty of strengh from that.

Try checking your bal position. It sounds like you have a out to in swing path. The only advice I can give you is to check your swing plane. I've found the bets way to do that is video analysis. Compare with pros. This the best way of seeing what your faults are. I had the same problem as you. Never realised what the problem was until I saw the video clip. My swing plane was to shallow and therefore it opened by clubface at the top of my backswing, relusting in a out to in swing path and therefore hitting a slice/fade.

Have you checked your alignment? This can also be a factor for the fade.Aiming to much to the left and pushing the club out to in.

Swaying/weight transfer can be the reason for you losing distance. Check that your right leg is flexed inwards at adress and stays that way until the backswing ends, with the weight on the right side.On the downswing transfer that loaded power to the left side and your ditnace will defnitely increase.
On the backswing make sure you get behind the ball.DO NOT KEEP YOUR WEIGHT ON THE LEFT SIDE ON THE BACKSWING. No power is built!LOAD YOUR RIGHT SIDE!

        Re: driving distance --please help!!

your doing the good old reverse pivot, thats the only way the lead foot can move, you need to work on weight transfer and balance. put your feet together and make an easy balanced back swing when at top step towards the target with left foot and swing all the way to a good balanced finish

i disagree to that as i have seen long distance comp diving over 350 so reverse pivot is not an issue but i don't know how but i have seen there left foot go up near impact and lift off the ground and i have videos of tiger's front foot moving after impact (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iTtarBUX5E), don't answer me

i don't want hijack this thread so i will start my own.

Why do you want your hands ahead of your driver at impact? They should be level so that you maintain a square clubface. If they are ahead you will have an open face that will promote fades, that is unless you are using a strong grip.

Left foot turning. Do you wear golf shoes? Try really digging the spikes in and putting pressure on your left foot during weight transfer. You might also want to check your spikes to make sure they're not worn out.

A simple excercise for this is pull down on the club from the top. This will have to eliminate over the top and creat a square clubface at impact. End result should be a sold straight strike
