  • hallelujah!

    hi all
thanks to everyone for their advice on straightening out my driver swing.
stood further way from the ball and adopted a slightly stronger grip and VOILA!
i was hitting a slight draw or straight at about 240 yds consistentlyand thats at a waterlogged range should get another few yards in the drier weather!
thats more than enough for me guys
happy just to be accurate with driver at last
    cheers

      Re: hallelujah!

Are you sure its a good thing to change a BIG fundamental just to help you hit your driver better? Its obviously a plane problem because you cut it but hit your irons good, the reason for that is because an iron has more loft and doesent show up your bad swing habbits as much, they say a driver shows all your problems!

All you had to do was put a headcover to the right of the ball, and hit balls like that for a week, hitting the ball from an inside approach!

But grip change might be good for short term, but it will cause more problems in the long term.

          hi rick
          thanks for your reply
i know what you are saying is correct but it works!
i have neutral grip for every other club is it harmful to change grip for maybe 4/5 shots a round?

            Re: hallelujah!

Slats, I say 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.

If it's the solution you need a handful of times per round, then have at 'er.

FWIW, Ricky, I think I remember reading somewhere (possibly Pelz?) that advocated a grip change for a fairway woods swing, due to it's shallower path. Guys change their grip for half-swings as well - pro guys - guys on Tour - to avoid certain tendencies that different shots bring out.

            Slats - you're probably A-O-K.

Now take your new driver swing, and go get fitted for it.

Slats im not too sure, but because you have work and stuff I suppose a quicker fix like stengthening your left hand grip isnt too bad an idea. But if you want to spend a week or two 1 hour a day getting your swing plane right with a neatral grip I think personally that you will see the benefits in the long term!

                hi rick
now ive got a bandaid fix for hitting driver i am going to work with the headcover drill to see if i can dial it in.its only with driver that i slice!
my nearest course only has 3 driving holes so ill use 3wood for those till i can get my driver swing right.
                cheers
