  • Looking to replace 3&4 Irons with What ?

Due to the fact i can be inconsistent with my long irons, i am looking to replace them in my bag. I thinking i could replace my long irons with a 7 wood or some sort of rescue club, then i could put another wedge in my bag for extra versatility when close to the green.

    I already carry a Driver, 3 & 5 wood.

Any recomendations to which way i should go? 7 wood or rescue club.
Or any other thoughts about carrying 4 woods and 4 wedges.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Art,

The first question that needs to be answered is are you a sweeper or a digger? If your tendency is to sweep the ball (little to no divot) then fairway woods will be your thing. If you tend to hit down (definite divot) then I would suggest a rescue club.

The main difference is that rescue club heads are generally heavier than their fairway wood cousins, and as such are meant to be played at shorter lengths and hit like irons.

I am a digger, and carry hybrids from 25° up to 16°. So my bag is Driver, 4 hybrids, irons, wedges, putter. No fairway woods for me.

Hybrid, no question, IMO. Dump the long irons and get a hybrid that’s 15 yards longer than your 5 iron. After you fall in love with the hybrid, dump the 5 wood and get a hybrid that’s 30 yards longer than your 5 iron. You can keep the 3 wood for control tee shots, if you want, but you’ll probably never hit it off the deck again.

I like my 7 wood, it is easy to use and generates good distance with a degree of height that can be useful.

It does depend on your type of game but I made this change some time back and went for a 7 wood (Taylormade V steel) and a gap wedge. It was a good exchange.

I have tried them. I used a 19 and 22 deg for a while but got better results from my 5 and 7 woods.

Hi, I had the same trouble with long irons so I went to hybrids which I found better but I was still a bit inconsistent then I bought a king cobra 7 wood the best thing since sliced bread. I`m not a big hitter but I can get 170+ from this greeeaat!!! club
