can anyone explain to me why when i tee off on the first its 250/60yds straight and perfect only for it to go steadily downhill as the round goes on. I try to repeat every set up the same ie allignment, ballance but clearly what feels right aint right. Ive always had a right to left draw which i use to my advantage then it goes badly wrong, it keeps low and veers off to the left, could it be stance, grip or both? isnt golf annoying, i play off 19, i would be very greatful for any advice and will reply to your messages. Happy golfing.

    Re: driving

could be that as you warm up and your confidence increases you try to hit the ball harder resulting in your ball flight going horribly wrong.

just keep it steady and find a routine that keeps everything the same through all the shots

      Hi ya Mate,

I know how you feel on this, its one thing or another that goes wrong. It is true that you might be getting more confident and trying to speed things up in your swing for more distance and thus causing major driving problems. Another problem could be down to you getting tired during the round causing your muscles to be tense, which most people dont understand. However it might also be a mental thing.

My advice would be get yourself into a routine (which I think you have got), just before your tee shot have a sip of some suger water / energy drink (this will relax your mind) and before your tee shot just slightly stretch your back with a slow rotation to loosen up any stiff parts. Now do your routine set up and keep your swing nice and controlled
Hopefully that will solve your problem.

      Cheers
      Mark

Since I have the exact opposite problem, since I don't warm up properly, I cannot relate

However, I would have to go with fatigue. As you get tired, you try harder. I experienced this last Saturday. Played 18, and played well. Went out for another 9. Played well up until the last 3 holes. My back and legs were worn out.

          Re: driving

I would second the fatigue element.
          Do you carry your clubs?
If you do try playing a round where you dont and see if its any different.

If I play when Im tired it all goes wrong on the tee halfway through the round, its the biggest/hardest swing you make and a tired swing will give tired results!

            Re: driving

anyone else play worse when they drive the cart?

I hate it because the second 9 on my course requires you to use a cart...that's where my game seems to go downhill.

Is it because it takes less time to the ball? It'd make sense if so.

              Re: driving

Mental tiredness can cause loss of concentration on the tee as much as physical tiredness.

Try to conserve your mental energy, we only have so much available through a round so let go of the concentration when in between shots, enjoy the surroundings etc when moving around the course and get back in the zone as you walk up to your ball.

randomhero, thank you for replying, i do agree with your opinion that fatigue is the reason for my wayward driving in the latter stages of my round, i will try and slow it down, happy golfing mate.

                        Re: driving

i took just my 3wood and driver to the range tonight and just got a bucket of 50 balls
i warmed up properly and was hitting some nice shots mainly straight and some draws until say the last dozen when i started to fade and slice the ball.
i was meticulous in checking my fundamentals so could it be stiffness creeping in after so many long club shots

thank you slater for your reply, i hit lovely shots at the range but my course is a long course and tend to go astray the longer the game goes on, im now trying to slow things down and conserve energy. happy golfing mate.

Could be boredom, if so, try keeping track of fairways hit(FIR), Greens hit(GIR), Putts, for each hole and challenge yourself.
Also, make sure you are eating and drinking something every 3 or 4 holes; crackers, fruit, no alcohol, lots of water, maybe a soda, peanuts etc. If you keep your nutrition up, your blood sugar and electrolytes will be maintained and your brain will receive what it needs to focus.
Do some stretches with a club behind your back and twist; do some squats etc. to stay limber.
