  • Hitting balls off heel/hosel of driver...Please help

Hey guys, with my driver, I am not consistently hitting inside the center of the face. I hit more inside (near the hosel). I can tell because from the range balls, it leaves scratches and mark on my club.

Can anyone tell me how I can hit more in the center?

    Screw it.

Buy the new Wishon 919. It's so damn forgiving, it almost doesn't matter WHERE on the face you hit it.

No, seriously. It's the real deal.

If you're not in the mood for an equipment change, if you're consistently heeling your driver, then back away from the ball - an inch'll do.

Also try making sure that you downswing match that of your upswing. Don't be to eager to wack the club at the ball on your downswing; that will cause you to throw the club outside of your upswing plane & you end up forcing the club in to get to the ball (a out to in swing path). Obviously trying to overcompensate you hit the ball on the hosel.

Get some impact tape from a golf shop. Experiment with moving away and getting closer to the ball at set up. If you are set up too far away from the ball you could be reaching to much on the downswing. I would start with setting up with the toe of my driver on the ball and go from there. The impact tape will tell you instant feedback of where you made contact.
        Good luck.

This could also be an out-to-in swing path related problem.

          How is your ball flight?

A pro told me to do this a while back, you'll be amazed how much added distance you get. not sure if it works with the putter mind!!!

You have a swing flaw problem. The tough part is figuring out what part, or parts of the swing are suffering. Moving the club head at address to compensate can work, but a swing issue is causing you this problem, since you just mentioned only your driver, and not any other clubs. What I have been told in the past is to start from scratch and check your stance width for balance, check your grip, start with a one piece take away, check your position at the top, make the correct first movement of the down swing, and make sure you are using the proper weight distribution through out your swing, again maintaining your balance. Once you think have all of the above dialed in, then just focus on swinging correctly, and letting the ball just get in the way.

A good drill with the driver are slow speed, full swings, graduating to your full swing speed, while focusing on the above items.

Also, you do not need to buy golf specific impact tape. Just about any tape will work, but I use the 3/4" wide electical plastic tape, which works well for me. A .99 cents, 50' roll of electrical tape will be enough for 600+/- tests. Any sticky residue left over is easily cleaned off with WD-40, following that up (if needed) with a good wet, soapy cleaning.
