Left eye

Hello,

I am a right handed golfer but my dominating eye is the left one. I use to have a lot of problems with my alignmnet with woods and irons but in the other side I feel very confortable when putting.
I dont know if this could be because of that.

Has somebody the same problem ?

I have the same problem!

You are right about your putting success BUT only if you keep the ball on your left instep! Too much to the right, your putting will go sour in no time!! Another pointer- I had trouble with alignment to the hole and finally out of desperation, I physically stooped down behind the ball , put my finger on top of the center of the ball and aimed the putter to the hole- realized that my aiming was badly off even with the proper ball position! Then I took the stance at right angles to the putter face ( not to the shaft which could throw your aim off!) .

This is the same problem with the full swing too! You will be amazed how much your game can improve if you can aim properly and hit at the center of the ball! Look silly doing this? Not when you see your fellow players start commenting on your abilites to be consistently long and in the middle of the fairway! Again rememeber to stand at right angles to the club face and not to the shaft.

What I propose does not take any additional time- now it is a lot quicker because there is no second guessing on my shots once I am set up!! Just swing the d---n club!!

One additional caveat- make sure your left arm is fully extended ( this automatically takes care of the ground elevation/depression issues in the field!)

Once I figured out I was left-eye dominant, my address always involves checking my aim with only my left eye open - putting, driving, and everything in between.

I currently have a student who is left-handed (left eye dominant) but plays right handed. He came to me because he was firing al over the park, was miss reading putts ... all caused becuase he wasn't looking correctly.

He does swing well, very well in fact, but his alignment is shocking. We know why ... he is standing on the incorrect side of the ball and his eyes are trying to deal with it. In effect, they're trying to read text by looking at a mirror.

We eliminated the problem and you could probably eliminate yours too by aligning to the golf ball, close your right eye, do the checks and then swing away. It will take some practice becuase with 1 eye it is more difficult to judge depth.

If you still don't get it right, start to use visual aids to help your alignment. You could address the ball, hold the club in both your hands and use it to align line of your feet, then your knees and finally your shoulders.

Stand behind the ball and pick a spot about a foot in a half in front of your ball and you indented line. Then address the ball with your club face first to that spot. Now step into the address with your feet along an imaginary parallel line and everything will take care of its self. That spot is within your periferal vision so you can keep that imaginary line there during your takeaway and followthough.

At the range, always put a tee out in that 1.5 foot mark..easier to see and move around. I don't like the club shaft pointing on your toes, because that line it not rally the true line, it is a parallel line that should alway be left of the target (RH).

I agree. I'm right handed but left eye dominant. Eye dominance has nothing to do with correct or incorrect alignment because our eyes are on a parallel line. In other words in a square alignment if we draw lines across our heels, hips, shoulders and eyes all lines will be parallel. So it makes no difference which eye is dominant.

I am the exact same way, although I have experimented closing my right eye and letting my left eye do the lookin and I've really only tried this with my driver and it seems to work awesome, although I haven't done it enough to say for sure, I have tried it and when I do I can get great solid contact. It could just be in my head lol...

I agree with Greg, Im left handed and play right handed. I find I align myself so much better at the range than on the course because the mats at the range automatically help you square up. I stand behind the ball and point the club from the bal to the target and in my mind draw a line between those 2 points then, when setting up I try to keep that line in my mind.

On the course, try lining up all shots with your dominant eye - what a difference!

I think you should always line your shots up with the eye that is closest to the target (left eye for right handed players.) The reason is that you can always keep your eyes on the ball and still see your target with your peripheral vision. If you are right handed and are right eye dominant, try closing your right eye when lining up, especially when putting.

Stance at right angle to the putter face? Don't most of us all do that?

Everybody here is talking about alignment. How about actually striking the ball. Seems it would be more important to have the dominant eye more on the ball so to speak or more on where we want to contact the ball as we strike it. No? I am also left eye dominant. I want to monkey around with this idea so more feedback would be appreciated. Seems it may be important to get the left eye behind the ball at address but hard to do for a right hander with an iron and the ball back in the stance.
