The main idea in golf as in life I suppose, is to learn to accept what cannot be altered and to keep on doing ones own reasoned and resolute best whether the prospect be bleak or rosy. Bobby Jones
Don't be so bloody greedy, the improvements you've been making lately
Seriously though keep working with "The-Book-That-Must-Not-Be-Named" and don't change your swing at all now; get down to Kwik-Fit (because you can't fit better than a Kwik-Fit fitter) and have your driver checked out; as the actress said to the bishop, you may just need a new shaft.

off the range tonight
got a couple of ideas to try.
really happy with distance and accuracy of all my clubs, just think im not getting optimum distance with the big stick.
still sticking to the 3sk*lls concept!
w/o buying a new club shaft ect. one thing you can do to increase launch angle a bit is tee it up higher place it further up towards your left foot or past it and bump your left hip out more increasing your tilt and hit up more on the ball.
but usually people hit way too high, and want to hit lower like the pro's and let the ball rise. if that is the case and you might want to look at gregs RHD you might be flipping/or swatting and inadvertandly adding loft.
or maybe you are hitting great, but now that you are hitting differently then when you got these clubs fit for. in that case you would need new clubs,
or just learn to play better than with the ones you got. that could teach you to work on your short game ect. and make up for that extra 10-20 yds you might get from a club with optimal laungh angle.
PS. there is also rpm you have to worry about to get optimal distance for what your swing speed is and launch angle.
thanks for that golfinguy
brought me to my senses stopped me being a greedy bas*ard
230/240 in the middle of the fairway is a great way to start the hole and ive got to remember that playing off 22 the par 5's are par 6's!
I'm playing off 22, as you know, bud, hovering on the 21 boundary, and I never drive the ball as far as you. 190 is a good drive for me, and it never seems to matter..? It does mean my mantra has to be 'up and down', though - or maybe 'wedge and putter'
You could try a distance ball, it will create less spin and may give some more yardage, you may get a bit less spin on the greens but that does not always matter. Grab hold of a Pinnacle distance ball and try it.
You want to improve your launch angle, is it low? I think something around 20 Degrees is just about right. To achieve this with a 10 to 12 degree driver you will need to tee the ball fairly high to get the additional 8/10 degrees launch angle as you sweep it away with a slightly upwards blow. (Mind, that book we don't talk about recommends hitting the ball from a level blow with the driver)
A faster swing will also do it as long as the contact is solid and square.
Unfortunately all these things can have a potential downside, I would suggest to keep N***ing it down the middle, I think you will find some more distance will come along at it's own pace.

hi brian
thanks for the advice
with hindsight i will stick to driving my NXT'S down the middle.
for some reason i was under the impression that i was coming up short on drives, love to know what i did when i hit one 282yds earlier this year
my focus is now going to be fairway 2nd shots and the short game which with the n*il it concepts is coming along nicely

You and I Slats. I know when I have hit that one with "effortless power" as opposed to "powerless effort" and it sails gracefully into the blue yonder, it always seems that I was swinging well within myself.
Something to consider that did help me with driving was to use a slightly shorter backswing. I am convinced that the problem with making a long graceful swing is that you have to be so precise with where you apply the release that it can easily happen too early which leaks a lot of power. A shorter backswing makes it easier to time the late hit and in my case assists with the feeling of "effortless power"

good point brian
to be honest ive always employed a shorter backswing i only ever get to just passed parallel, i was trying a longer one last night at the range but as you say you run the danger of getting out of sync!
in reality im happy with my accuracy and like i say my focus for improvement needs to be elsewhere.
hopefully with "n*il it" by 3sk*lls golf that will come in time!
happy days
hi slater
i find when you pick the driver out your bag you instantly think distance and your body seemed to react by tensing to give you that extra power. when you try and give it that little bit extra to gain the 10 more yards you want you always seemed to swing faster and get out of sync. it you can think of your driver as control club and a club you can place the ball on the fairway with you find out you don't tense up the arm and shoulder muscles and start to hit the ball cleaner and the more you swing smooth like Brian said (the more you sense where the late hit is.) you also find out you make contact with the sweet spot more often and do seen to hit that effortless shot that sails away into the distance and brings a big smile to your face.
i now always think of the driver as being my control club. i use to think that way about my 1 iron as i seemed to always find the fairway with it and since doing the same with the driver i seem to hit more fairways too. i have never been long with driver i hit about 250 to 260yards and I'm more than happy with that distance as i can reach all holes in par if i hit them straight.
maybe if you concentrate on hitting the sweet spot more than trying to hit longer you might end up getting more distance.
best of luck and good to know that book has helped your game so much.

cheers bill
you are right it is about consistently hitting the sweetspot!
i hit my driver best when i swing with my PW tempo
