  • Sliceing at full swing. Not at half.

Ok, i drive pretty strait and about 200yds, when i line myself up right, and i only bring my back swing about 3/4 back. I feel i might get much more distance if i can improve the back swing.

I have the medicus driver, it helped to this point, but i dont know if i just need more practice, or if im doing something terribly wrong. Even though the medicus doesnt break down on me very often. Though i dont swing it super hard, either.

Seems like i am not getting very good contact with the ball. Even if i dont try to kill the ball, it still slices right, if i pull all the way back. When it doesnt, i hit the top of the ball, and it goes like 50yds.

Sounds to me as if, with the full swing, you are coming off the ball. This could cause the topping and also the slice - basically, you start to stand up. You may actually rise up when trying to complete the backswing. This, then takes us back to spine angles, etc.

You say you may get more power with a full swing v 3/4 - not necessarily so. You could well be better off with the shortened backswing. There are many ways to add a bit of power other than lengthening the swing.

      hi
does the ball start out going to the left and then start to turn right about halfway or does it start straight and then turn right.

Why, yes it does. In both instances. Even when it goes straight, it still veers to the left just a hair and then back straight. At my local range, i lined up with the yard markers and used them as a line to go by. Almost everytime, it went a little left first.

This i can see as being so in my case. So it is ok then, if the swing does not go back as far as some golfers? I am not a very flexible individual as it is, and i have a bad back to add.

            hi freewill
Sandy Lyle was a really good golfer that only ever swung with 3/4 swing and he was also a very long hitter and still playing some good golf today.

Absolutely, you can generate all the power you need from there.

If I could say one more thing; in my swing, if the left arm starts at six 'clock at address, it reaches about 10 o'clock at the top of my backswing. At that point, my left shoulder has turned under my chin and the club is parallel to the ground as a result of the wrist hinge and I feel pretty wound up.
