  • Hooks, Pulls and Blocks Driver!

I've eliminated my slice!! Yea for me. But now I have new problems with my driver! I straight pull the ball a lot. Hook it to the left, and block it to the right sometimes. And maybe 30% I get the straight, or slight draw shot I'm working on.

Been really trying to keep my right wrist hinged as long as I can before releasing the clubhead. Pretty much the right handed drill. It's done wonders for my iron game. But I can't get it to work for my driver. A slightly closed stance seems to help a little bit. As does using my 3 wood instead of my driver.

    Any Ideas????

    Thanks,

A number of things may be going on. Sounds like you are coming over the top slightly to create the pulls, perhaps starting the downswing with your arms instead of transferring your weight to the left side.

A closed club face is causing the hooks.

For blocking / pushing to the right, you could well be getting ahead of the ball with too much lateral movement (on those occasions when you're not hanging back on the right side).

You mention holding the cupped right hand. This is OK so long as you're squaring the clubface at impact. However, it's easy to hold it open and not release properly.

A good thing to work on with the driver is the feeling that you keep absolutely everything behind the ball. Obviously, make sure you don't sway off to the right on the backswing. This feeling wil then stop you from sliding too far to the left on the downswing. In addition, it encourages you to rotate the shoulders rather than lunging with them.

      hi
are you trying to hit your drives straight, if you are then some will go left and some right, i think it would serve you better to try and draw or fade every drive and then you know what way your ball is turning and you can set up for it, if you try and hit straight then most shots will be going away from where you are aiming, if you use say a fade then you know ever shot will come in from the left edge of the fairway and will be running towards the middle of the fairway.
keep working on your slight draw

Make sure that your hips are moving, shifting your weight.

If not, your torso will rotate around you more, putting you on an out-to-in swingpath causing the pulled shots.
