  • Pulling drives left

Okay I changed my grip to draw the ball and did well over several months. I had developed from a draw to a pull to a hook. I can't fade a drive if I bet money on it. One thing is different. My left hand is sore between my ring and little finger, not from golf... yard work! Feels like arthritis so I tend to compensate some left wrist action on my follow through to eliminate the pain in my left hand. Should I open the face or stance? I must be coming over the top with a closed face. Rest of the clubs are fine. Hand is getting better.

    Re: Pulling drives left

Without seeing you swing this is a best guess, and just some thing to check. I don't think you fingers hurting has much to do with it. What usually happens to people that draw the ball, you learn you must hang back a little to achieve that draw, it gives the hands a little more time to get the face closed. Then the progression is to hang back a little more now your hooking, then your not shifting at all, now your pulling. This happens to even the best of players, so I would work on making sure you are getting that weight shifted to the left, you'll know you have gone too far when you begin to push shots. Hope that helps, Merry Christmas...
