  • Almost 40.......

Well guys on Boxing Day I will turn the big 4 0 aaaahhhhhh.....!

I thought I would treat myself rather than spend money on a party and celebrate with and pay for those to eat and drink my hard earned. I have a very surportive husband who is looking after the two billy lids whilst away.

This Saturday I am off to a golf clinic. There are only 4 individuals per clinic. It goes for 5 days. All parts of the game are taught yet what excites me most are the playing lessons and course management.

As it turns out there are 3 other ladies at the clinic (was initially disappointed but my view has changed somewhat). It turns out the 2 ladies are 45 markers and the other has no handicap. I currently, well have stagnated, I am 10.

It turns out that my playing lessons etc will be one on one with the coach. Fantastic.....!

    Can't wait.

Do you guys have similar clinics in your home towns?

I always thought that life begins when the kids are gone and the dog dies.

      Enjoy your lesson!

        Well guys,

The clinic was 7 June 09 for 6 days.

Absolutely fantastic clinic - best money spent thus far on my game.

Most importantly I can now walk to the ball and hit it WITHOUT any technical thought.

I had one on one tuition for the 6 days.

The clinic was to be 4 in a group yet the 3 others were high markers. I was given the option to have the training one on one. What a treat.

The first day, coach and I went through my swing. It was basically to see where I was at. I was put on the DVD.

Jimmy - the coach said that our goal for the week was to work on utilising my power and gain 2 to 3 clubs.

I can now hit my 9 iron 100 - 110m on the fly. Not to bad for a sheila!

Jimmy worked on giving me width on the takeaway and starting the downswing with the lower part of my body.

My right thumb was moved slightly and width of my stance a bit wider.

The ball position for my driver and fairway woods was moved more forward in the stance.

        The playing lessons were fantastic.

        Course management I was taught

        - to take dead aim 8 iron in,

        - if i can get to the green or leave it short 10 - 20m go for it,

        - if not because of hazards or too far out, I am to lay up between 100 - 40m,

        - always pitch with my wedges - never take a full swing.

        - My key is to 'bang' - kill the ball.

        - if my lower body does what it is suppose to, my hands can go as quick as they can - the right thumb is the key to this. I will never have to worry about the downswing if I transfer the weight first.

        - When working a ball around a obstacle don't be greedy and allow a couple of metres and
        - Only slice with a 3, 4 or 5 iron
        - Only hook with a 7, 8, or 9 iron.

        SAME SWING DIFFERENT CLUB.

The short game was fantastic as well.

The last day I again was put on DVD - just like having a lesson. A great resource to refer to when I need refreshing. Given Jimmy lives about 6 hours away by car.

        Anyway - I am stoked!!!!

Good stuff Nickers Sounds like you should be cooking on gas from now on.

Please keep us informed on how you take the lessons to the course.

            Well fella's,

Caught up with the new coach on 3rd August 09 whilst up his way for a 2 day tournament on the beautiful Murray River NSW.

Had great chat and then got stuck into it.

Well the grip, posture, set up and alignment are good.

I have been working on the width of my takeaway and weight transfer. Good. Only have to check them every now and then. I don't have to constantly worry about it any more.

I had totally lost my rythym which was caused by over cooking a move I was suppose to do to initiate the down swing.

I was missing quite a few putts left - as it turns out my shoulders were slightly open.

I still am struggling with the club being taking away on the inside and have to focus on the club being in line with my toe line and hitting too early.

            Now I am to;

            - focus on the club and being in line with the toe line of the takeaway.
            - first movement of the downswing to avoid an early hit (casting).

I am hitting a good ball. It's great that I am not thinking about any processes when I am address.

An interesting point for mine is speed of the swing is not the issue, it's how hard I hit the ball.

            Til next time

            Nickers x
