  • Advice please (travel bag)

Thinking of grabbing a week away towards the end of the year (a little late Spanish sun perhaps) but don't have a travel bag so if any of you can make a recommendation of a decent value bag I'd be grateful - and any other tips to make the journey easier would be fine too

    Thanks in advance.

Get a hard bag for sure, and one with wheels. Check with the Airline you plan to fly, most these days won't accept soft bags, will charge you extra to put it in a box, and won't insure it either. Hard bags are a little more expensive, but worth it, you'll thank me for the wheels later...lol..you can get one with a lock, but it is pretty useless, TSA will make you leave it unlocked.

Careful Robin, this video was a pre-round ceremony for visiting golfers at the Spanish club I visited.

        Re: Advice please (travel bag)

I've had both soft and hard cases (made by Datrek).

The hard case travels much easier, but is much harder to fit into the rental car - in a Dodge Charger mine was a backseat occupant (versus fighting with it in the trunk... err... boot).

The soft bag is more convenient - it fits in a smaller space due to folding away, but is less protective of clubs. The solution is to rip a 2" x 2" piece of lumber 48" long and to shove it in your bag. That way, it takes the stress of your bag being bumped and dumped, and it will break before your driver does. If you have it available, a cut down hockey stick works, too (I've got one specifically for that soft bag).

        And wheels are a must.

Travel bags come in all kinds of types and sizes. There are a few soft sided bags that are really sturdy that might work... Hard bags can be heavy... I posted an article recently on my blog, golfgurls.com that had a few recommendations. You might want to check it out at: http://golfgurls.com/2009/12/03/play...ur-golf-clubs/ I included links to the products and a general clue as to cost, might be helpful for you.
Have a great time on your travel adventure.

Not about the bag mate, but make sure you research where you play. It's always painted as a place full of great courses but there are some right pits there amongst Golfing heaven.

My opinion and experience with golf travel bags is you get what you pay for and with airlines too - are you from the UK? can you still take golf clubs as sports equipment for free with the main international carriers? I personally wouldnt trust with clubs with Ryanair et al.

I love playing golf and fantasy football, but fantasy football season is over. I find myself with lots of time on my hands. What can members recommend for a game to play against others each day that requires skills and luck with some kind of championship?
