As it is fast approaching I just want to know your thoughts on who will win and why... for me it is going to be a close one with Europe just edging it and some great performances from the debutantes.

Re: The Ryder Cup 2010
This will be what Tiger has needed, a reason to show everyone why he is still #1 in the world, a reason to get back into his game, and the start of the rest of his career. He is the best at match play...ever...perfect time to "come out". Pair him with Stricker again, and they will do extremely well, maybe even undefeated.
5 rookies on the US squad? My only concern. But...Kuchar...what can you say about this kid other then "wow!"...he is the hottest player right now on the PGA. 11 top 10s! This says everything.
Europe not picking Rose and Casey is probably going to be the reason why this year will be a blow out...I am still scratching my head on this one.

Close Contest
The Ryder Cup is always hard to pick.
On one side you have a team with several rookies but on the other side you have Europe with the home ground advantage. Team USA have all the hottest players on tour at the moment in their squad, Dustin Johnston, Matt Kuchar and the ultra consistent Steve Sticker. They have a nice balance of experience Furyk, Woods, Michelson and Johnson. It's just a matter of them adapting to the overseas conditions.
Team Europe is strong as well and will be tough with the likes of Westwood, McIlroy, McDowell and Donald. It's a few of their newer players that I am not sure will be quite up to it. Should be a great contest though.
I'm tipping Team USA by about 2.

Re: The Ryder Cup 2010
europe for me all the way, they play better as a team, more genuine friendships in the team.
i always think the USA team has greater individuals, but not a better team.
always the problem "who plays with Tiger" and Tiger is always the boss in that team.
also i think the location will not suit team America, a lot of the guy's rarely play in Europe , never mind Wales
Wales is a lovely place, the European's will love it.
Wales......October ......bbrrrrrwrap up well lads, and lots of wet gear.
i will be attending, it's only across the Irish Sea for me.
i played today, wind, rain, sun, sleet, and that was only on the front 9.
can't wait

Re: The Ryder Cup 2010
I'll be rooting for Team Europe, but I think both teams are looking very scary and should demand some respect with the opponents.
The Molinari bros will be interesting to follow. The have enourmous confidence, have hit their top form at the perfect time, and are currently the best match play pair in the world.
Fischer, Kaymer, McIlroy, GMac, Jimenez, Paddy - all amazing players, and the triple UK threat of Poulter, Donald and a hopefully recovered Westwood, all have the ability as well as the drive to excel at the Ryder Cup.
I'd love to call Peter Hanson the weakest link, but the truth is, he has qualified on merit and has played a rock solid season so far, and fully deserve it. Match him with some experience; Paddy or Jimenez, and watch him fly balls at the flag.
I'm looking forward to seeing Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar in the match play format. Nobody can doubt their abilities, but match play is a different game altogether. They will be hard to beat, for sure.
There are som solid experience on Team USA as well: Tiger, Lefty, Stricker, Cink, Mahan, Furyk are all solid players, even though nobody can really tell about Tiger. No doubt about his skill, but his mental toughness right now is a big issue. It could be the spark that rekindles the flame, but it could also be a bucket of water putting out the rest of the fire, expecially since he won't be playing in the FedEx cup finals.
But we all know what Tiger can do, if he gets in the zone.
I can hardly wait.
Bring it on!!!

Looking at the pro USA vote I'd love to know the geographical breakdown of the voters. Greg?

Re: The Ryder Cup 2010
Hmmm, I wonder what is on the menu at the Celtic Manor clubhouse tonight? I think the Europeans will be having a large plate of the 'Whoop Ass Special' probably followed by a small helping of 'Humble Pie'

Re: The Ryder Cup 2010
If the big bombers—Phil, Bubba, Dustin—don't hit it straight, U.S. will be in trouble. Tiger, in interviews, is acting like same ol' no-news somber-faced Tiger. And his game hasn't peaked yet. Still hitting some bad shots during practice rounds. This team best get off to a fast start or Team Tiger chemistry may suffer early. Outside of a few like Zach Johnson, Furyk, these members do not make for a good Ryder recipe. I hope I'm dead wrong, but I think it's the home team in a rout.

Originally posted by Go LowWell, let's see...a few things I noticed
Team USA:
All U.S. players hate playing in cool, rainy weather.
Has inferior rain gear that was not waterproof and is heavy and bulky when wet!
Has rain jackets with big last names stitched on back - like a basketball team!
Has golf bags that are not waterproof - everything inside got soaked!
Has golf bags that are ugly - the red is more burgundy - bag looks like circa 1960!
Clothing apparel is not very becoming.
Tiger Woods' golf swing is in shambles on 8 out of 10 swings!
Tiger Woods' golf swing has never looked worse!
Phil Mickelson's golf game isn't much better than Tiger's golf game!
Matt Huchar's golf game is about as bad as Phil's golf game!
Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson are not playing as a team!
Stewart Cink made putts from everywhere!
Team Europe:
All players are accustomed to, and don't mind playing, in the cool and wet weather.
Nice rain gear, golf bags and clothing apparel.
All players are playing as team players.
All players are swinging well and playing solidly.
Captain Colin Montgomerie has put a lot of pressure on his team.
Team Europe must be the very heavy favorite.
Question: Why does running into a fire hydrant and having sex with a zillion women mean you need to change your golf swing? Especially when the old golf swing was winning tournaments, including the last tournament before running into the hydrant.Very good, especially the bit about the fire hydrant and golf swing.

Re: The Ryder Cup 2010
See my other thread on this but essentially Woods, Michelson and Kuchar are just there for the ticket sales they bring. They have really not shown themselves to be deserving of being on the team as their play is very shaky.
Pavin was forced to take these guys; he knew it was a big gamble, one that has already been lost.
The euros are playing like they belong there; the US team is being depressed by the likes of Woods and Michelson, these guys are ego maniacs and cannot play team play. They think its only about them, it's always only about them-no one else matters.

Re: The Ryder Cup 2010
What a rock Lee Westwood was again today, after a months absence with his calf injury he has returned with the aura of a world number one.
It was a great day for Europe but I have to say that Stewart Cink has been an inspiration for the US team over the first two days, he is what Monty was for Europe. Bubba Watson and Steve Stricker have shown some grit in their first event.
Tiger and Mikelson were unbelievably bad today, Mickelson setting a Ryder cup record of 17 losses. This competition is so different from players normal game in that it is mainly a team event, instead of being out there on their own with only their caddy for comfort they now have a golfing partner who they need to jell with. Tiger and Mickelson dont seem to have the required mindset to create that sole mate partnership required in this type of game. I guess Donald / Westwood, McDowell/McIlroy & the Molinari's have a natural clannish bonding.
It will be interesting to see how the singles pan out tomorrow, this will be more like the normal game for most players and the weather looks like it will be fair. I have a club competition in the morning but will be riveted to the game in the afternoon.Last edited by BrianW; 10-03-2010, 10:47 PM.

Congratulations Europe - Ryder Cup champions 2010!!
How fitting that the winner of the Celtic Manor Wales Open 2010 is also the guy that clinches the Ryder Cup win.
