  • The goofiest shot you ever seen

I have never had a hole in one, a few eagles from 120 yds out on par four and fives, but never an ace. About 10 years ago, in my prime, I was playing alot then, five six times a week plus practice, you know really working hard. One afternoon, I was playing a round just working on some stuff and a guy asked to join me, I said no problem, we were on a par three about 155 yds, this guy tell me he just started playing a week before, first time on a course, I'm thinking dam, this is going to be a long back nine..lol...the guy step to the tee with 3w in his hands, man its only 155 yds, but I bite my tongue, keep my mouth shut. He flails away with the ugliest swing I have ever seen, ever...the ball rockets low and right at a 45 degree angle, hits a tree, bouces back onto the cart path, bounces about five times, catches the corner of the trap, pops straight up into the air, comes down onto the green and rolls into the hole....I almost quite playing golf that day.

So what is the goofiest shot you have seen, we all need to be humbled.

haha, thats a good one. sorry havn't really been playing long enough to see anyhting like that. my goofiest was simalar to that, i drove it and it sliced about 40yds right of the green and hit something and bounced about 5' from the hole, but thats it.
that was the same day my friend was stiting in the cart about 90 deg to my right, and i must have come way in to out with a wide open face becaue i just about nailed him in the face, it wizzed right throuh the cart and right by his face. needless to say he always stood way behind me from then on lol

This one was quite a problem for all the memebers, but nontheless as the rules of golf go, the way it should be.

      * 4 ball match member-guest (I'm the guest)
      * Last day of a 3 day event and the top teams of that flight duke it out.
      * 16th hole. We are down by 2, but on our way back from 5 down...thinking this is in the bag...the other guys are falling apart...litterly as you will see.
      * I pop one out 200 with a 4i (hard dog to the left, can't hit driver on this hole)
      * Partner 180, fine shot.
      * Now the opponants. Nervous does not describe them now. Seeing a 5 hole lead slowly drifting away.
      * First guy, sliced...wrong way to go on this hole...basically out of it.
      * Second guy with every ounce he has, misses the ball completly...well almost completly. He nicks the outside of the ball just enough that the ball goes in a perfect 90 degree angle "BETWEEN HIS LEGS!" and hits our cart!
      * Now, I know the rules. They apparently didn't. After the howeling subsides, he attempts to play the ball from where it rested next to the cart. I said, what are you doing? You guys just won! Rule 19-2. That cart was part of our equipment. After several minutes of explaining the rule, we ended up 3 down with 2 to play and they bought is drinks for the rest of the night...(free drinks from the tournament), but still, loved that shot. Never seen one like it since.

        hi
playing a 4some and had just finnished the 13 and were on the 14 tee, it was blowing a gale off the sea right into us, two of us hit it about 150 and into the right rough, the third guy came up and skyed his driver under the ball and sent it way up in the air and to the left, the wind caught it and started bringing it back over us and it landed about 20 yrds behind us and started running down the bank and over the 13 green, well did it not go right in the hole, the three of us were in fits and the guy that hit the ball walked over and picked it up out the hole and walked back to the clubhouse, we still talk about his hole in one, teeing off on the 14 and holing out on the 13th.

The best I seen was on a par three down south a couple of years ago. I had just teed off and landed the ball on the front right part of the green. The hole was app. 180 yards downhill. My partner then teed off and it was almost the identical shot. The ball actually landed right on my ball, of course sending both balls flying. Never seen it before and don't expect to see it again!

Re: The goofiest shot you ever seen

This shot isnt goofy but it was abit naughty but fun!

We was on the par 3 5th hole, me and 2 mates and the green is right next to the clubhouse. After 2 holes one of our friends had gone off in a sulk cos we were taking the mikky cos he was playing rubbish! So we was on the 5th tee and we could see him on the putting green which is also right next to the clubhouse, bearing in mind the clubhouse there is big glass patio doors we were stupid enough to try and hit my mate on the head, I betted both my mates to hit him on the head £5 (obviously wasent going to happen) so my mate goes first with a 5 iron, aims it at the green and hits a HUGE draw its going right for him haha and then bounced about 5ft from him and then my other mate goes and he hits his about 5ft from him again HAHA and then I come along and hit my 5 iron REAL HIGH and the wind caught it TOO MUCH and it was going right for the patio doors, it hits the clubhouse roof and bounces onto my mates (on the putting green) back! God it was fun, doesent sound very funny but it was real fun to do!

Re: The goofiest shot you ever seen

A friend of mine was invited to a pro am many years ago and was so excited to be playing with a pro. This guy "plays" off 28. Anyway, on a par three 155yds, there is a toyoya car behind the green for an ace. He pulls a three wood and the pro asks what hes doing? He says I feel comfortable with this and will just gently stroke it. He steps up ( in front of a gallery) and proceeds to drive the ball through the windscreen of the car. Needless to say he hasnt played anymore!!

Oh man, I thought you were going to say it hit the car, smashed the window, and rolled into the hole...phew.

Hate to say this Greg but I think you misread the rules and gave that game away

On my reading, if he had hit his own cart then 19.2 would have applied and he would have lost the hole however if he hit your cart then Rule 19.3 applies - the logic being, I guess that you are responsible for your own equipment but not your opponents - and your opponent should just have played his shot again.

                  19. Ball in Motion Deflected or Stopped

19.2 By player, partner, caddie or equipment
                  a. Match Play
If a player's ball is accidentally deflected or stopped by himself, his partner or either of their caddies or equipment, he loses the hole.

                  Whereas under:

19.3 By Opponent, Caddie or Equipment in Match Play
If a player's ball is accidentally deflected or stopped by an opponent, his caddie or his equipment, there is no penalty. The player may, before another stroke is made by either side, cancel the stroke and play a ball without penalty as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played (see Rule 20-5) or he may play the ball as it lies. However, if the player elects not to cancel the stroke and the ball has come to rest in or on the opponent's or his caddie's clothes or equipment, the player must through the green or in a hazard drop the ball, or on the putting green place the ball, as near as possible to where the article was when the ball came to rest in or on it.

I have seen lots of goofy swings at my club. There is a guy that putts really wierd.

The goofiest shot i ever did was when i was playing the par3 ninth. It has an elevated green with steps on the left hand side. i hit my shot left and hit thesteps and somehow the ball bounced back onto the green even the the steps were going away from the green. I holed the putt as well.

On that same hole i got lucky again when i thinned it out the bunker only for it to hit a tree that was out of bounds and come back on the green. I didnt hole the putt this time though.

Re: The goofiest shot you ever seen

Every year my buddies and I go up to Wisconsin for 4 days of unlimited golf and last year when we went, I was teeing off on a hole that was right next to a highway. It was to my left- well I am about a 20 handicap and usually hit a weak slice. I step up and must of really gripped tight , because I hit a hook about 150 yards out - it goes out onto the highway as we watch it bounce smack it hits a tire of a semi. Now the ball is going the opposite back up the highway as we turn our heads to follow it back up the highway almost like a tennis match. It goes past us about 100 yards and you guessed it - smacked right off the bumper of a white pontiac - the ball comes flying back to us on the tee box and just missed one of us and landed about 10 yards in front of the tee. Needless to say it had to be the most traveled drive that any of us has ever seen.

                        Still have the ball.

Re: The goofiest shot you ever seen

Mine has to be when I was on the 18 th hole par 5. After an awsome tee shot I was in perfect postion with about 210yrds left to the pin. The pin location to my shot was down hill no wind so I took out my rescue club as I wanted to attack the pin (not often I get the chance on this hole).

So feeling good I swung my club only to hit my ball ever so sweet and it flew like a rocket. It must of took me 5 seconds to register in my brain that this ball was out of control and head straight passed the green, so I shouted fore as you do. The ball only then hit the top of the back wall surrounding the hole, which then fired it off into the lady captins car like a rolling dam buster bomb. Lucky for me it hit the bumper and not the rear windscreen and then sent it back over the wall to within in chipping distance to the pin.

I felt so tiny as I heard the car alarm making a racket with people coming out of the club house investigating the matter and me head down slowly walking towards the green with my mate in tears of laughter.
Anyawy lucky for me the only damage it done was a chip in paint work and a small dint. As you can guess she was not very happy but after some true grovelling she assured me that she would not take the matter further.

To my astonishment within a couple of weeks the club had moved her car spot, the chairmans plus captins and erected a safety fence / net along the back wall.

I did end the hole with a birdie which cheered me up a bit.

                          Cheers

I was playing a par 3 hole with a pal,and he hit his tee shot to wards the water hazard on the right of the green. When he got to the hazard he saw his ball in the shallow water. He took his shoes and socks off, went into the water, some how got it on to the green near the pin.
When I walked to the left of the green there was his original ball,it must have hit a rock and rebounded.
Still very wet he thinned that shot straight out of bounds.
We still laugh about that one.

Re: The goofiest shot you ever seen

After playing 55+ years of golf, I have had, I believe, more than my share of aces. During one round of golf I was playing with novice golfer, who was playing only his second round of golf. The first hole at this course is a 180 yard par three. I was lucky, (as all aces are) and scored an ace. On the next hole which was a par four, I hit my tee shot into the fairway in good shape. My playing partener then asked me why I did not go for the hole. He actually thought that aces were the norm, and not the exception.

As for strange, but true shots, I myself have hit, and seen many more shots bounce off something, and turn out to be something fantastic. While in Florida there is this golf course near a farm. I saw a guy hit a cow dead square in it's forehead, and the ball bounced back on to the fairway. After laughing about that shot, he hits his second shot into the green which was a slam dunk for an eagle. The irony was he did not break 100 for that round. GJS
