Re: The goofiest shot you ever seen

    My own shot:

Short par 3 (150 yards) with nothing but pond between us and the green. (Well, OK, there's about 2 yards of rough between the green and the lake).

The 2 guys I'm playing with hit good shots, one on, one a little long. I grab 8 iron (there was about a 1/2 club tailwind) and swing. I chunk it just a little bit. Just a little chubby - but it's obviously heading for the pond. By some miracle, it lands 5 yards short of shore, skips up, hits a rock, and kicks onto the green.

Just for the record, this is how I play golf. I'm the luckiest SOB most people have ever played with.

13th hole at North Berwick Glen course (the par 3 that always features in the british mags when they talk about signature holes) its about 130 yards, maybe a wedge/9 iron but its blind downhill over thick rough and gorse, all there is is a rough path hewn out the hillside. On the day I hit an 8 into slight breeze and ended up nice and safe about 20 feet away. One of my playing partners drew out an iron and left it just off the left side. Then the other guy pulls a 7 iron and has a swipe, he catches the ball maybe half a centimetre above the middle and it shoots off at a bit of a funny angle about 3 feet of the deck and heading to ground quickly but it cleared the edge of the hill and bounced a couple of times on the path. As you can imagine its loaded with tons of topspin so it rolls onto the green still a good 25 yards away from the hole and not running towards it either. However the green is a bit like a bowl and the ball, still travelling at a fair clip starts its inexorable arc toward the hole, it rolls round the outside of my ball and across the top of the green, as it slows its starts to fall back down the green and with about the last roll of the ball topples into the hole, briefly jams against the stick and then falls.

I watched the whole thing from the hilltop, incredulous and turned back to congratulate the guy who was busy putting the club back in the bag, he had missed the action, which was a shame.

Re: The goofiest shot you ever seen

When I was about 15, myself and 3 of my friends were practing our wedges at a park up the street. The park was about 130 yards long so we could hit our wedges pretty much 100% at the time without issues.

Anyway, one of my friends topped his ball and it went about 10 feet in front of us. He walked up and bent over to pick up his ball just as another friend hit his. The ball hit him square in the crack of his butt. He's wearing loose fitting basketball shorts. The ball sticks, stuck right between his butt cheeks. I still laugh about it everytime I see him at the course. That was over 15 years ago.

My second goofy shot, which is actually a pair of goofy shots and some of the unluckiest golf I've ever played. Hit my driver, on the fly it hits the 150 yard marker which is just a piece of 1 inch pvc pipe. Ball kicks straight right 30 yards and out of bounds. The people I played with said you'll never do that again in a million shots. Well they were wrong, it only took me 5 more holes. Teed of this time and hit the 100 yard marker on the fly and bounced the 20 yards right and OB again.

          Some great shots mentioned above.

I was out golfing with my brother who ranks his game on how many rental clubs he accidently breaks.... Anyway, we are on the 10th tee, and he had been chatting up some ladies at the clubhouse veranda... he walked up to the tee box, let rip with monster John Daly windup, club whips down directly under the tee'd ball. The ball pops perfectly straight up, he casually sticks out his right hand and gently catches the ball without having to move from his original golf stance... He re-tees the ball and smacks it straight down the middle about 275 meters, casually turns to the ladies at the club house, pulls his hat off and bows and says "Now that is a practise swing .... Claps abound with laughter and shouts of "Do it again...."

Another time I was golfing with a uni mate who could'a should'a gone pro, but had the wrong tempermant for the game. We were playing an ambrose and he was the last to tee off. Everyone hit their shots well, so he pulls my Bull's eye putter out of my bag, tee's up his ball and cracks a drive straight down the fairway farther than any of us hit with our drivers.... My putter still has the ball dimples on it from that shot....
