Odds are not in your favor. Starting at 23, you are about 12 years behind most of your competitors. This equates to both composure and experience in tournaments. You could have success in a few years in the armature events, and there are tons of them to try out. Your ability will be put to the test, and once you find out the abilities you are looking at at this level, you will make a better assessment if you want to loose your armature status. Look at it from a simple perspective: If you picked up a football (american) and threw a few passes to your buddies, would you be thinking about trying out for a pro team?

Maybe you could look into a job working for a club pro in his shop to start with. You then may be able to improve your golf and start a PGA Pro training course if you can get down to scratch or below.

      Never give up.

There is a great movie that was recently distributed you might find interesting... called The Back Nine, about a guy in his late thirties who has always wanted to become a pro and what it takes to do it... I know you are a lot younger, but the movie gives you a little insight into the pro side of the game. You can pick it up at amazon.com - here's a link: Amazon.com: The Back Nine "It's time to take your shot": Jon Fitzgerald, Tim Suzor, Dr. Joesph Parent, Katherine Roberts, Ron Vignone;Jon Fitzgerald: Movies & TV

Best of luck following your passion.
