I am similar to you and prefer graphite. Anyway my Pro didn't want me to have them and made me have steel. However, I have not noticed any advantage with steel.

having bought most of my clubs from goodwill , a few are graphite; and i tend to hit them much better .

I've been golfing for quite a while, and I actually prefer steel. Graphite has it's advantages, but it feels flimsy when I swing. It sounds like you might want to work more on your mechanics if you need more club speed before investing a lot in clubs!

I bought a new set of Taylormade Burner irons last year after trying several different brands of clubs. I narrowed it down to the Taylormades with stiff graphite shafts because they were the ones I hit the best -- better than the same clubs with regular steel shafts which were the next best for me.

These are the first graphite shafted irons I have had and I agree with the comment on the flimsy feel of graphite shafts. But, I haven't felt this with the stiff shafts. It really comes down to what feels and works best for each individual I suppose.

Bought were good to use but I'd rather choose steel.
