Different numbers on clubs

This is for all who are about to ask:

The different numbers on the clubs correspond to their ball flight. The higher the number, the higher (and shorter) the ball will fly. Generally, clubs with letters (AW, PW, SW, GW, LW) will fly the highest and shortest.

Another rule of thumb is that shaft length is directly proportional to distance. The longer the club, the longer the ball should go.

I have also seen TW - Trouble Wedge. and AW - Approach Wedge.

I've never heard of a trouble wedge, but I have heard of an approach wedge.

But DI really screws up my analogy.

Another way to describe them is: distance is relative to the length of the club. Typically the longer the club is, the farther the ball goes (when hit correctly).

I was trying to address a common rookie question, in that most people ask what the numbers mean.

I realize what you are trying to accomplish. I'm just trying to add some info to your post that is somewhat related. The question of what the numbers mean and why the clubs go from long to short seem to go hand in hand.

Maybe it's time to revamp the original post to include the info regarding shaft length.
