  • Driver Choice!

Hi all! ive just joined here well i would like to know what a good driver for me is! as im a young golfer i need a club witch can help me get distance from the tee at the mom im using a titelist 975j its good but i cant seem to get the most out of it as i have a slowish swing! so i need a club like the plus 10 so when i have a slowish swing speed it still delivers a good distance! i donno if this makes any sense Thanks Steve!

The big difference is not the club head, but the shaft. If you have a slower swing you may want to try a senior flex shaft. This should fix your problems.

Just to second the shaft vote - the slower your swing, the softer the flex you need. Depending on how young is young, and how slow is slow, a senior flex might be the thing.

But if distance is your thing, and you don't care for accuracy, get a longer shaft as well.

Titilest I find are not the easiest club to hit compared to the larger head drivers on the market.

I use a Taylormade R7 which I have only just purchased, this is a great club without moving weights about.

I think the all time best club I have ever had and I have had three different models is the COBRA the last and best was the 440sz. I have a slow swing also and the regular flex is softer than most so plumb for a COBRA.

Very easy to hit and very forgiving.

          Hope this helps.

          Ian.

Then don't sweat distance right now... you've still got time to grow and get stronger. Make sure your swing is as sound as possible, that your technique is perfect, that you can make the ball do whatever you want. These are all things you can control and influence directly.

Learn how to execute great short-game shots (half swings, bunker blasts, chips, pitches). No matter how far you can hit the ball, these are the shots that will ultimately determine your score.

Finally, don't identify with the letters or words on the shaft of your club. If you can't stand the thought of your club saying 'Senior' or 'A', or even Regular or 'R', then buy some electrical tape, duct tape, or masking tape, and cover it. Pencil in whatever you like - I prefer average yardage with the club, so that I know at a glance which club I need.
