pro v1 balls

hi all
just wanted to know if it would be worth buying some i use precept utri tour at the moment,was gonna change cos the pro vs are supposed to be great around the greens.my question is if the pro v1 creates more spin if i hit my drive and it starts fading/slicing would it be more of a fade/slice than with the balls im using and is it worth changing,i do find quite a few on the course i play but i give these to my mate,hes like a greyhound chasing a rabbit when i find them .thanks for any info.

Sparko, I have used both balls and to be honest there is little difference. I found the U-Tri to be a bit less resilient than the Pro-V1 but I didnt notice any real difference in control or distance.

This will be an old tune for the regulars in here but I cannot recommend the Hogan Apex Tour Black enough, it truly is the best out there in terms of distance and feel. I gained at least 15 yards on the drive with it over the Pro-V1.

Try it, I promise you wont be disappointed

thanks i will buy a sleeve tomorrow,dont know when i can try them though cos weve just had a downpour of snow and it was -9 the other day it could be sunday all being well ill keep u posted on the result i have cheers.

I like the pro v1 I think the ball suits my game, I don't like the pro v1x I find it flys higher but dose not stop as quick.

That's because the X is designed as the distance ball of the Pro V1 brand. Less dimples.

@ Ricky: Refurbs are nice, but chances are they will not perform the same as a new ProV. The dimples are generally shallowed out - decreasing spin, and the finishing process makes a ball play more like a rock than a ball.

At this point, I keep my eyes peeled for balls that are new, but ~$1/ball. This means buying distance balls a lot of times, but sometimes you grab up a fantastic sale!

Don't get me wrong, Ricky - refurbished ProV's will still be better than any old distance ball, or any refurbished distance ball - but if you play a refurb next to a new ball, you'll see a difference.

I dunno LowPost, a guy I know swears by the refurbished Pro-V1's and he plays off 2 so Im sure he would notice any marked difference.

Personally I have been put off refurbs since I bought a dozen Maxfli Revolutions (the ball I used to play) and the covers started to crack after 9 holes!

Also, in reference to your comment about the V1x spinning less, I actually find I get more action on the X than the regular Pro-V1. No idea why this should be, maybe just the way I hit them (I do hit the ball stupidly high I suppose, that might contribute to it).

For a quality ball at a more reasonable price, Wilson are great value their top line ball is usually between 5 and 10 bucks less a dozen than the Titleist/Callaway/Nike counterpart.

I love the Pro V1x balls... the other day i had a horrible day and lots a couple of them, I switched to a different ball so i didn't lose any more, and all my distances were shot. including 10 yard chips all the way up to 200+ shots. I can no longer survive without Pro V1x, i give you my heart pro v.

i just got my first set of clubs today....i got suckered into a charity tournament in 2 weeks to i'm heading to the driving range in the morning. i've been putting into a coffee can all day in the kitchen...until the wife made me stop. but does anyone know what to really concentrate on other than putting so i don't look like a total fool. also does anyone know if the top flite x-outs are any good?

Top-Flite anything = BAD. If you do a simple test of bouncing any top-flite against any other decent ball, you will notice a huge difference, the top-flite is a clanker. But golf balls are the least of your worries right now. You need to be able to hit a solid shot consistently, even if it is only 130 yards, you just need to be able to hit the ball well.

Have you tried a Bridgestone B330. I used Hogan Apex Tours when i could not get hold of Pro V1 i then tried a Bridgestone B330 one day when my pro had no Pro V1s or Apex Tours and gave me one for nothing to try. That was nearly twelve months ago and i have not gone back to Titlest or Hogan since. I hit the Bridgestone longer and can stop it on a 20 cent piece with anything from 6 iron down which is i find remarkable as i have not been impressed with the way i am striking the ball for the past three months.

When I play tournament golf, Bridgestone are the only balls I play. I have tried pretty much every top brand ball and find the Bridgestone ball to be more receptive to my golf swing, and game. If don't want to spend $40 for a dozen balls and are looking for a good alternative, try the John Daly Roaring Distance Golf Ball...I got them as a door prize at a 4 man scramble tournament and actually liked them alot. They had a nice feel, soft and responsive....I was surprised that they were that good, and I think you can get them for less than $20 a dozen...just a thought. A little inside tip you can try, go to each of the top brand golf ball manufacturer and ask them to send you a sample sleeve of their top of the line ball. I have done this with Titleist, Bridgestone, Maxfli, and Nike....just a way to test out balls before you go and sink money into a ball you don't like....

I tested the Black Max during a round last week, and though it is a good ball it didn't really impress me all that much...but then again I am a very picky person when it comes to golf equipment. It really didn't feel much different coming off the club face on any club than any other ball I have played.
