Hi guys, its me again, sorry . Just wondering whether i should get new golf grips since my clubs are so old? And if i do, what's the benefit of having new golf grips for my clubs, does it really affect anything? Thanks again.
Getting new grips on your clubs is a great idea, I assume you have decided to take some lessons and continue to practice with you older clubs until you feel good enough to have a new set. Good for you.
New grips will really help, if your old ones are worn the you will grip the club tighter and therfore swing worse, new grips will give you a feeling that your holding the club lightly but firmly. A new glove will help too, go for a leather one.
I change my grips every 18 month or so and have a new glove every couple of months.
thanks for the reponses once again, yeah my grips look pretty old, they're even peeling off the shaft , and yes i am going to get lessons soonish, that is if the assignments at uni start to die down . thanks again for the tips!

As soon as your grips get a bit hard, slippery or start to crack it is DEFINITELY time to replace them. As for when frequent players should change their grips, try for about every 100 rounds of golf to keep them feeling new.
Once you DO get new grips, make sure you rinse them off after the round. It helps keep them in better shape, as oils from your hands can degrade the grip material faster.
Granted, I rarely follow this advice... but I regrip my own clubs and have found some cheap grips that I like to use.

If you are looking to restore a bit of tackiness to your grips, try this: put some liquid dishsoap on a dry cloth and wipe your grips with them, but use sparingly - you don't want them covered with a layer of soap! Use another dry cloth to remove any excess soap and to ensure the grips are dry. Do not use any water!!!!

As all the soap is wiped off, there should be no suds forming as your hands sweat. I have read this tip a few times but never used it myself. I usually regrip every 75 rounds or so.
