driver shaft

hi all, ive just bought a ping g2 reg flex after hitting it very well on the driving range,i got back home and when i went for a round or two found it to be very inconsisstent most of the time going straight 3/4 of the way then sliceing right.ive think the shaft is 45" long maybe a smidge more is this a good size for control or should i think about getting it cut down some,and what is a good size and how much distance should i expect to lose if i cut it down thanks.

If you were to cut the shaft down an inch to 44 you can expect to lose 5 - 10 yards (max). If you are slicing severely you will actually gain distance if the shorter shaftkeeps you in the fairway because you are losing the diaginal travel!!

when i slice it im hitting it about 200 mtrs but when it goes down the middle it goes about 250+ mtrs,not sure if these are good distances ?

So, sometimes you hit the driver straight and others you slice? That's swing mechanics, my friend. Do you have the same problems with any other clubs?

no not really im pretty good with my irons just seems to be the driver im having problems with and i cant figure it out,it is very fustrating.

I know you are somewhat isolated in Iceland, but you need to get your driver shaft matched to your swing. I have seen it make the world of difference for every person I have sent to get this professionally done.

Everyone has a different swing speed and swing charactoristics. A standard graphite shaft will not work for everyone, maybe 25% at most. Steel has less variables, so it will be more consistant from user to user, closer to 75%. This is why there is about 300 different types of graphite shafts on the market and about 8 different types of steel shafts. For this reason, I have quite buying clubs with graphite shafts already installed. I now get them custom built to my specs and I have a LOT less headaches wondering why 1 or 2 clubs out of 14 won't work with my swing.

If you still would like to consider trying to cut your shaft down, try choking up on your driver and see if the results change. If you choke up leaving 1" out at the top, you have almost done the same thing as cutting your club down an inch. It may actually work better because the grip is a bit smaller as it goes down the shaft, which would allow a fuller wrist release, promoting a draw. The only other thing that will be different between choking up and cutting your shaft down is that cutting the shaft will change the weight of the club a bit.

would the grip size effect my swing with the driver cos i do use larger grips on my irons?

A smaller grip will promote a draw, a larger grip will promote a fade.
