    Re: Iron distance limited

Thanks Dej. I'm still trying to fix up my swing so I can do the same thing over and over again. Just a few questions.. How far should my elbow be from my body at the top of my swing? And my left hand at that position, how many degrees up should it be pointing? Thanks!

Hahaha, Simon, you need a protractor to calculate the angles. Im not qualified to say how far and at what angle your elbow needs to be in relation to your body, your pro should help you with that. All I can say is that all of that will depend on your size, body shape and general level of flexibility. There is so much to a swing and it varies from person to person that it would be wrong of anyone telling you what you should do at your learning stage apart from your pro. He should asses you and see what would work best.

When I started I was told to keep a hanky under my arm pit of my right arm forcing my elbow tight to the body. Then another pro suggested I not concentrate on that and more on increasing my hip and shoulder turn and let the right elbow move naturally from my body. This works for me, my grip has changed three times by three pro's and have settled for the one Im most comfortable with. From trying to swing as far back as possible I have settled to swinging as far as comfortable and not having my swing breakdown (when your left arm bends on the back swing), not only have I increased my distance but I hit it a lot straighter which suits me fine as Im accelarating through the swing. There's so much more I need to improve like tempo and opening up the body on the down swing to the point of contact (this has been the biggest improvement to my game but if I can get the timing right all the time then I would add another dimension to my game).

My suggestion is to just listen to the guy teaching you and not to start running before you can walk. Nick Faldo's first few lessons he didn't even get to hit a ball. I still can't use my woods, and to be honest it doesn't bother me too much now as I know in a year or two I'll start devoting time on them once Im 100 percent happy with the Irons and putter. Driving for show, putting for dough.

I am using Maruman Proliner G1 set too. My Iron 7 can make a maximum of 125m but sometime it only make 60m. I am not a Pro and I have just started going to driving range for 3 months and i have heard from a Pro saying that Man can hit at 150m with Iron 7. But I think the key to golfing is not strong hitting but hit it straight to where you want it to land at the fairway which will advantage your 2nd shot. Good Luck. Everyone starts this way. Happy Golfing.
