I would like to hear some experiences you guys/ladies have had with the Medicus or the Refiner, hinged swing trainers. I know there are a ton of you that have them and use them, and I am looking into purchasing one, based on what I hear. I am new to golf, o.k. with short clubs, but lack any kind of consistency with drivers and long clubs. So, do these trainers work?

Re: Refiner/Medicus?
Personally I don't like either, if your going to get a training club, then get a momentus, or some other heavy club. These will do you far more good, build muscle, groove a better swing (prevent over the top move), provided you use it correctly. It is not meant to be swang hard, but rather easy, letting the weight of the club dictate the path the club takes and thereby building muscle memory and strength. Also good for warm up, stretching muscle, lots of pros using a heavy club, it obviously must do some thing. The training grip will also get you into a better grip, more muscle memory. I use the momentus at least 3 or 4 times a week at home, just to keep me stretched out, when I can't play. I use it just before I go to the course as well. Best money I have spent on golf trg aid.

Medicus Driver Reviews - comparisons of the Medicus and other golf training aids - "Hype or Hope?"
Re: Refiner/Medicus?
I own a golf store, so I'll give you my opinion for what it's worth...
Yeah, the Momentus is good, but saying a heavy club should only be used, or that it should be used instead of hinged clubs like the Medicus or Refiner doesn't make much sense.
Let's look at a sporting example. I used to swim when I was younger. We used all kinds of training aids to refine our stroke. The swim coach didn't say, "Forget the kickboard, just use ankle weights!"
No... we used all depending on the situation. It doesn't matter how far I hit the ball if I make lousy contact and spray it all over the place. I live in South Carolina, and if you hit it in the trees, you're not going to get it.
The Medicus and the Refiner are equal in my estimation and use. I have 4,400+ reviews that show the Refiner gets a slight edge. Sure, the DVD is lower quality, but who cares? Everyone seems to make the same mistakes, so you watch the DVD once or twice and then take it to the course.
As for the Refiner being junky, that is hogwash. It's solid - I wouldn't sell junk to my customers. Besides, my medicus hinge rusts.
Finally, consider the price. Do you have any idea how much it costs to run constant infomercials all over TV? That is why the Medicus costs twice as much as the Refiner. It has nothing to do with quality.
In my offline store, the Medicus outsells the Refiner 2 to 1. I attribute this to Refiner Golf not marketing much offline. Conversely, in my online store, the Refiner outsells the Medicus 2 to 1. If people know about the Refiner, they buy it.
Also, I have NEVER had a Refiner club returned. Ever.
Hope this helps.

Re: Refiner/Medicus?
The medicus isnt worth it, Ive used it, and the refiner is a waste of time. If you want better ball striking, take the 100$ youll save and get 3-4 lessons

Medicus Driver Reviews - comparisons of the Medicus and other golf training aids - "Hype or Hope?"
Re: Refiner/Medicus?
The one point that I think most people miss is that training aids and golf lessons are not two rivals like the Sharks and the Jets in ol' West Side Story.
People say things like "if you have $100 to spend, use this, or use that, but never use this or that".
Beware people who use absolutes when talking about something as trivial as our golf game.
True, we all want to spend our money wisely, but if we only have $100 to spend, we are in the wrong sport!
Golf pros use training aids to reinforce their lessons when they are not there. I have used training aids in every sport with great benefit.
Both the Medicus and Refiner are great tools. Most people who say they don't work also would say as they pat their belly that the treadmill sitting in their living room doesn't work.
Nothing works if you don't use it, and use it correctly.

Re: Refiner/Medicus?
I have a Medicus dual hinged driver. It works ok, but I've found that you can swing that club without breaking the hinge and still have a bad swing. My fault was getting the hips too far ahead of the arms and hands on the downswing causing a moderate to sharp pull to the left.
I've since corrected the problem, but it didn't show up on the medicus driver even with the hinges adjusted to a very light setting.
So, the medicus isn't for everyone. I'd get lessons and then later use some of the tools to refine my swing.

Re: Refiner/Medicus?
I had swung a Medicus in a store, but then bought the Refiner driver & 5 iron on the internet because I could get the driver & 5 iron for the price of the Medicus Driver and because of the advice from here. I'm glad I got the Refiner Driver & 5 iron. When they came in the mail I got them of the box & started swinging them immediately. I didn't wait to watch the video. I went straight to the driving range & what a difference these clubs have made for me especially the driver. I had the typical fade/slice with my driver and at times with my 3 wood. After practicing with the Refiner driver I picked up my Ping G2 driver and hit it straight as an arrow. I went to the course and hit my driver with confidence for the first time. I am a high handicap golfer so when I was on the green in 2 on a short par 5 I was elated. The Refiner driver & 5 iron work as adverstised. I highly recommend them.
