  • SW or LW???

Just got birthday money for a golf specialty store (thanks wifey ). I don't own a sand wedge or lob wedge. Which of these should come first?

Assuming you have a gap wedge, sand wedge first.

Assuming you don't have a gap wedge, gap wedge first.

Fill in your yardage gaps appropriately. Get your PW measured, then buy something 4° weaker. (ie if your PW is 48°, buy a 52° wedge).

Depending on the age of your irons (assuming they're fairly new), your PW will be 46-48°, and your sand wedge will be 54-56°. This leaves a 'gap' in your lofts (as much as 10°), so you buy a 'gap' wedge to fill it. This gap wedge will be 50-52°, and purchased ideally so that you have a 4° gap between both your PW and your SW. Your LW is 60° (+/- 1°), and you can buy ULW or XW at 64°.
