  • What clubs to buy?

I have just started playing golf and I am not sure what clubs to buy. What should I be considering when I browse through selections?

    Re: What clubs to buy?

If I was to start all over again:

I'd probably start with lessons and loaner clubs. The pro can probably get you something to swing.

Then, once I had a swing that I could call my own (pretty or not), I'd go buy clubs that fit.

I'd start with buying something with a deep cavity, probably oversize, and as perimeter-weighted as I could get. Then get them fit for length and lie (and since they've got 'em in the machine, get your lofts bent to spec, too. Even brand new clubs can (and are) bent wrong!) I'd probably buy stiff flex in my irons, too.

I've learned in my own game that 2° in lie angle can make a tremendous difference. For me, hitting into a green from 150 yards, it's the difference between being and the middle, and being on the right. (Yes, I built two demo 7's, one at 'standard' and one 2° up). 2 up was in the middle, every time.

Then I'd work with my coach some more, and dial in my swing, then enjoy golfing.

I was/am very happy with my Mizuno MX17s, if I were to buy again, I'd definatly go for them.

If you take some lessons, your pro will help you get fitted for clubs. It is important to get clubs for your height, strength etc and your pro can help you there. Also you may want to attend a "Demo Days" at your local golf course of pro shop.

              over size graphite.
helps u hit it farther with a slow swing speed and much more forgiving for of centre shots

                Hi,

Well I have to agree with lowPost on this. I would firstly get a couple of lessons ethier borrow a half set from a mate or see if the pro will have some for you to practice with. Once your hitting the ball then my suggestions would be get your self a full set of irons and to do this as follows:

                1) Set yourself a Budget of what you can afford.

                2) Choose what you want from your clubs i.e. Are they for pleasure and fun or do you want a club to develop your golf etc.

                3) Speak to your pro with regards to what he has for your money budget.

                4) Try out all the clubs that the pro suggests by hitting balls. Dont just pick one on the swing as you want to be able to control the ball so it build up your confidence.

5)When your about to buy carefully look for all the correct information about the clubs to make sure they are genuine. If you are going to buy clubs over the internet ask for this before you buy and pay with a credit card that secures you over internet fraud.

                6) Now you have your clubs just enjoy and start homing in your skills

                Hope it helps
                Cheers
                Mark
