Blading my wedge shots

What's up with this? I'll have a 100-yard wedge shot that should be easy, but instead of hitting it high and soft, it comes off the clubface like a 5-iron and the ball will fly past the green. Is this a stance issue? Whatever it is, it takes my already nonexistent short game, and makes it even worse. Thanks for any help.

Tough call without seeing you swing, but, one of two things may be happening, A) you are trying to help it into the air, hanging back on the shot, low point of swing ends up behind the ball and you blade it, not hitting the face at all, just blind luck you are not hitting it fat, if you do hit fat often, this may be the problem, or B) your shaft angle is leaned way, way to far forward at impact, thereby delofting the club to what might be the same as a five iron.

Hi Phil,

This sounds to me that your not releasing your hands once you have hit the ball.
Here is what I do

1) Open my wedge face wide so that it looks almost flat.
2) Put the ball forward in my stance like playing a 3 iron
3) Now the most important part smooth swing. Keep your swing smooth and controlled but most of all dont lash at it
4) keep soft hand threw impact and relase the club.

Think of your swing as symmetry what ever you do in your backswing do exactly the same in your follow through.

Sounds as if your delofting the club. Try to get your hands even with the ball at set up.

Another possibility is that you are actually decelerating. when this happens, the club head passes the hands and you end up with a breakdown of the left wrist at impact. Shorten your backswing, commit to the shot and maintain the left wrist angle at impact or maintain the cup of the right hand. hope this helps mike.

Thank a lot for the tips guys. I have been practicing, and I believe I had a combination of different errors in my swing. I have been trying Greg's Right Hand Drill, and I am amazed. I was a very bad swatter, and his drill has given me accuracy and distance. I'm playing a round tomorrow, I'll tell you guys how the practice worked out. Thanks again.

Well, it worked great guys! No bladed wedge shots whatsoever. I actually began to become confident within 100 yards, and it was a great feeling. Thanks for the help guys, my bladed wedge shot days are over...for now.
