  • Hitting down on the ball??

I have read a lot of messages on this site that advocate hitting "down on the ball" or trying to trap the ball between the club and the ground. After trying to apply this advice on the course and on the range, it seems clear to me that I have no grasp of this concept. Could someone please post a photo or an illustration demonstrating this concept at impact for the slow learner ? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

What I did to get a feel for it was to try and mash the ball into the ground - like the target was 6" forward and 6" below where the ball was. It helped for a little while.

I'm amazed at what parts of the golf swing are just 'by products' of a fundamentally sound swing. Things like lag, and divots.
