  • help with driver

Hi,ive been playing golf for about 2 years now. My irons are very consistant and i get good distance and am able to hit straight with them. But i cant say the same thing with the driver.

For the past 1 and a half years i was hitting straight with no problem nice and consistant. But then it turned from going straight, to a fade and then to a horrible slice. I tried pointing my club face to the left and hoping it would help a little bit, but all it does is go left to right.

What is the proper back and down swing i should do. Cause i have only a few things of hair left on my head LOL. Any help would be great thx

    Hi There,

Your slicing problem is almost certainly due to you swinging from outside to in and cutting across the ball with an open clubface. Pointing further left will make it worse as it promotes you to hit more out to in.

What you need to do is get the club coming into the ball on an inside path by making a full shoulder turn then dropping your arms straight down as the first move in your downswing.

This video shows you what to do.

      Re: help with driver

      hi saint
i think one of the biggest problems with the driver is as soon as we pick it up we think distance and that set the body up to try and hit the ball hard. the end result is we swing to fast trying to add a little bit of power and the timing of the swing goes. if you slow your swing down a little i think you will find you hit the ball better and in the sweet spot more and will not lose much distance but still control the ball better.
i am not a long hitter but if i miss more than one fairway in a round then I'm playing badly and thats always down to trying to add a little more power to the swing.
      cheers

I've found that closing my stance takes care of that (right foot back about half my foot length while keeping my shoulders square to the target). I keep the club face square. If I stand square on the ball, I'm going to slice big time.
