    Re: Chip and Run

    hi bdbl
i think that using the one club round the green for all shots was what most people did till Dave Pelz book "the short game" come out and players started carrying 3 or 4 wedges. you only have to go back about 15 years to try and find a gap wedges and they were very hard to find and now you can get wedges from about 47% to 65% and everything between.
you now can tailor your golf bag like you never could 15 or 20 years ago.
i think thats why you have a split in people using the one iron round the green and others that use what ever club will give them the run to the hole.
i don't think one system is better than another but i think the Pelz system breaks it down into calculated distances and you don't need to have as a much "Touch" round the green as you do with the one club system.
i think if you like to use say a 7 iron round the green then you often turn that 7 iron into say a 9 iron by opening the face and its more about touch and feel and you need soft hands.
use what works for you and what you find easiest.
    cheers
    bill

      Re: Chip and Run

Then there is the ol' when is chip a pitch and a pitch a chip. If one has a bout 6 to 8 feet, maybe a little more, between where the ball lies and the edge of the green with a relatively flat approach the putting approach is less effective. It is more effective when one has 2 to 4 feet to negotiate and land the ball on the green. We still want to land the ball on the green quickly and let it roll but we have to be more careful about club selection. That extra time in the air adds roll distance. I use the putter a lot from just off the green. I seem to be able to judge the roll through the fringe really well and I am closer more often than when I chip over the fringe.

hi guy this is a real easy tip ,,,if you want the ball to roll after you chip just simply release the clubhead and the ball will roll . if you want spin and abit of bite pinch the ball like the guys say but dont release the clubhead . personaly I like the chip and roll better ,,,its a better shot to depend on . try it and let me know how it works

I like the GREG NORMAN approach. You'll need to get the GREG NORMAN secret swing aid on Ebay. Also the video is available there too. It'll train you how to hold the wristcock longer before releasing hence opting for a more full shoulder rotation. It's the SAME STROKE for almost all chip/pitch shot around the green. The only thing I change is club selection...56 degree wedge from 25 yrds. in. 52 degree gap from 40 yrds. in and so on. These shots are all chips or pitch and runs. I use these except when I need to flop the ball, then I use my lob wedge and a completely different stroke.
