In complete agreement with BrianW. The only thought I would add, is that any time you raise a ball by tee or lie, you increase the chance of hitting the ball higher on the face and loosing distance. That's why I always tee the ball, but try to be careful to do so with minimal elevation, and more to just improve lie and "stabilize" the ball.

Re: Hitting off a tee on a par three?

Mmmm....Will my short iron game ever be consistant? Well maybe I've found the answer!

Well it's been a while since I've played (had a bad back - problems with discs), anyway as a result I had to give up the game for 5 few months. I decided to practise at the local driving range, slowing my back swing as much as possible. Now as you know, I've had problems before with hitting down on the ball (I used to scoop). I've worried quite a lot about hitting off a mat as it didn't feel the same as on the grass. I talked to the local pro' who asked me if I was hitting my irons off the flat mat or off the roughed strip (where the teeing area is for practising your woods). I always used the roughed up area. He informed me that using the flat area would be closer to the feel I would get on the fairway, and low and behold it felt great.

Now, you are wondering where this fits in with "hitting off a tee on a par three"? Well, after a few weeks I decided it was time to practise on the little course near by (It has more par threes than a normal course). Now what I decovered amazed me. I was hitting my short iron tee shots using a tee, all over the place, and the next iron shot would be **** too, but if I played two iron shots in a row I hit them really really well. So I decided, maybe my consistancy would improve if I stuck to just hitting off the floor (no tee's for iron shots). so I tried hitting my iron tee shots off the tee box. I hit the green five out of five!!!

I wondered if it was a fluke. So the following week I tried it out on my home course. On every par 3 I hit the green in reg', unfortunately My putting was not so hot, but I got pars on every one! And with loads of backspin (really unusual for me!!).Not bad for someone who regularly blows out to bogeys or double bogeys on par 3's.

Now I must add, that the local tee boxes are in very good condition (even better than the fairways), so I had perfect lies. But I was blown away!!!

Has anyone else had this happen to them? Or am I just wierd....either way it's a exciting step forward.....maybe..!!!
