  • Swing your wedge clubs with the beat

Dave Pelz in his book Dave Pelz’s Putting Bible, he suggests that for putting to swing the club forward like a pendulum with a fixed time period irregardless of the back swing magnitude. There is no fixed period for every one but is chosen individually. Also, he suggests using an electronic metronome in gaining consistency.
In the use of wedges, as described in his Short Game book, he suggests back swing magnitudes in terms of clock angles. He suggests three reference back swings for each of the four short clubs: 7:30, 9 and 11 o’clock. Then from the 12 distances traveled a matrix is obtained that can be used to pick a club and back swing suitable for a particular range of ball traveled. Just as with the putting club, the wedge clubs can be swung with a constant beat which contributes to consistency in ball travel. A beat that’s suggested by Dave Pelz is saying to yourself on the back swing SAAW…..ISH and on the forward swing SWISH.
I would suggest using a 3 beat uniform count with a 1, 2 back swing count followed with a 3 count on the downswing. This makes the down swing twice as fast as the back swing.. Number counting, I believe, make’s it easier to swing with the beat and with better consistency than SaaWish counting. If you used a metronome to establish consistency in your putting strokes, it can be used just as easily with the wedges. I found that the wedge beat is higher than the putting beat. For the putting stroke, it happens to be 80 beats per minute and for the wedges, it’s 100.
