Hi. I am experiencing problems on short pitch shots. I believe that one of the causes is that I am taking my club too much inside in the backswing. Does anybody know a good drill to get rid of this habit? Thanks.
I'm a golfaholic, no question about that. Counseling wouldn't help me. They'd have to put me in prison, and then I'd talk the warden into building a hole or two and teach him how to play. ~Lee Trevino
Have you ever tried to think about short pitch shots as a medium length putt? Same approach...no hands, shoulders back and through. Leave the hands out of it.
1) Greg: agreed but I try to think this way more when I chip. DO you think I should apply the same concept to short (but higher) pitches and flop shots?
2) Bryan: does that mean consciously turning shoulders more (instead of arms only) even for short pitches?

You should rotate your shoulders when pitching, it is a shorter version of the full swing. When chipping you can use a rocking motion of the shoulders like a putting stroke but not for a pitch.
all the advise is excellent ,,,however it seems you are asking advise on the lob shot which is a different technique than a normal pitch shot . the normal pitch is a extended chip if that's what you are asking about . Most golfers use to much hands and not enuff pivot when hitting these chip and pitch shots . Stan utley explains it very well and in his short game book .
I read stan utley's book. i guess what confused me is that it says to use your normal swing, and just pivot on your left leg. my problem is that often i'm coming from inside to out, which i guess is good on long shots but not on short shots, where i find myself stuck. does that make sense?
