  • the low skidder

Does anyone know how to hit the low skidder where the player flys it almost to the hole and the ball bounces and checks up? Obviously needs to be done from the fairway and with the right ball but how? I play a course with a lot of front flag locations and raised greens so a chip and run is a lot harder than on a green sitting at the same level as the fairway. Any suggestions would be great.

    Hi jmac32,

I have two other options for the scenereo you described.

    1. If you pitch into the apron, the ball should hit into the hill and pop up. This kills most of the forward momentum of the ball and from there the ball will roll gently onto the green.
    2. You could use a flop shot, land the ball on the fringe or just on the green and let the ball trickle to the cup.

These are a much higher percentage shots for mid to high handicaps.

The shot you described requires a descending blow on the ball, a lot of wrist action and the ball placed back in your stance - if you do not practice shots like this on a regular basis the results are disasterous!

I agree - it sounds like the cut lob is the shot you want (put practice is key!). The cut lob throws the ball high in the air, and doesn't allow for much roll after landing.
