Pitch shots from soft fairways

I've had a problem recently whereby if the fairway is soft due to rain and I have a shot let's say of about 60-70 yards I seem to chunk it and the ball only goes half the distance. This is often after hitting a good drive and I'm thinking birdie but then am up against it to make par- very frustrating! I'm hitting it the same as when it's dry but obviously I need to change it up to suit the conditions. What's the best way of changing the technique for this shot?

I'm a golfaholic, no question about that. Counseling wouldn't help me. They'd have to put me in prison, and then I'd talk the warden into building a hole or two and teach him how to play. ~Lee Trevino
