  • Greenside Bunker Play

I recently read an article that recommended the opposite way to conventional methods to play bunker shots. (right hander) The author explained that he kept most of his weight on his rear leg and kept it there throughout the shot.

Conventional teaching from what I have learnt has always been (right hander) to keep most of your weight on your left side throughout the shot. I realize conventional is not always right for everyone, but just curious if any members have ever tried it this other way and with any success?

Sounds like a plan for disaster for me. This can make the club bottom out early and thin the ball just like a fairway shot. I really lean my body forward but keep my hands vertical

      Agreed

      Yes I agree Brian.

I actually replied with a note, if he could recommend some videos online of how his method is done. I very much doubt he will be able to find any. Every professional I have seen, like you say leans their body forward.

      Thanks

        Re: Agreed

The one thing I constatly tell my students - "Whatever anybody (including myself) tells you, whether it be your club professional, well meaning friends or an article you have read - LOOK AT WHAT THE GOOD PLAYERS DO!" If all of them do it it must be right, if none of them do it, it must be wrong and if some of then do and some don't then its a matter of choosing what's right for you. Live by this statement in your golf game and you will never end up going down the wrong path!
