  • Putting Woes...

    Hi Folks...

My last two rounds have seen me shoot 79 and 82 with 34 putts both rounds....

Yeah, I know, 34 putts per round is not good...

Would be interested to know any putting tips or drills you have used that work for you...

    Thanks in advance...

    Cheers

We probably need to know if you have changed any thing and just where you think the problem lies. Chew on these.

      Re: Putting Woes...

Well it seems you are not three putting which is good. Once someone has a good putting routine I think any problems lie between our ears, I know that when I go through a period where my putting is off form it is due to my confidence being low, likewise when I am putting well my confidence is on a high. This seems to affect golfers at the very top of the game and I cannot see a solution other than always having high confidence levels. How do we do that? I know some people seem to putt well all the time and I can only guess they have a mental strength that can maintain this positive attitude.

No a solution but maybe some food for thought.

Did any of those links help or do you still have problems. I have a swag of stuff from my experiences, but won't bore you if you already have things sorted

hi scrag,,,,believe it not bad putting usually come form the legs ,,,if they move anything can happen,,,,pinch ur knees together hard when u put and you should see and better strike,,any movement from the bottom half will change the face angle and make u miss ,some people think it was their wrists but it was their legs changing the position of the whole body , try this ,,,setup with ur normal setup ,,,,lift putter off the ground and move ur hips and see how this changes the face angle ,,,,hope this helps

            Re: Putting Woes...

            Thanks for the replies Gents....

At the time of my OP, I was striking the ball really well tee to green and my putting was letting me down....

Have also been told by people whose golfing opinions I value, that I have a solid repeatable putting stroke and that I just need to learn to "trust it"....

About 6 months before, following the advice of the Pro who runs our pro shop, I had changed grips on my putter to one of those thicker ones, similar to the one used by KJ, with some initial positive results. However, after a couple of months, I was back averaging 32-34 putts per round. That said, I wasn't 3 putting as often as I had been.

Not long after my OP, I bought a new putter, switching from my Ping C67 to an Odysey White Hot 1 and reverted to the standard sized grip. Again, the initial results were promising, and again, I noticed again I was 3 putt less often.

A 3 putt for me is now a once a month thing rather than the 2-3 times a round it had once been...

Since then, I have come to realise, my putting is really more about my confidence and state of mind on the course.

That said, I guess this is true of my game as a whole.
