Let's suppose you're in the 18th hole and you've got a 9yd putt to win the tournament...you miss it. Now suppose you have a 4 foot putt...you miss, but this time you get really angry with yourself. Is it maybe that we tend to associate a 4 foot putt with a 100ptc chance of holing it?

Re: those pressure putts....
I wouldn't necessarily say that we think the 4 footer is 100% gaurenteed, but definitely a high percentage. I would be more frustrated that I left myself 4 feet on a putt under 30 feet, especially knowing I need to two putt to tie.

A new highlight: Golfing the home course on Christmas Day.
I say it too often: If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it.
For the record, I'm a club doctor, not a swing doctor.
Re: those pressure putts....
I'd say at 4 feet, I'm about 75%... 2 feet 85%, 1 foot 95%. Lip? 50%. (I screw around. A lot.)

Re: those pressure putts....
It's been checked out via mechanic's and a 10 foot put is 50% on a perfect surface like a snooker table, from there down to 3 feet its pure math's. As we like the grass we play on are not perfect from day to day we miss some putts.
But as Jack said on tour I have never 3 putt in my life and never will. Thats the way to play this game.
But if your the type of player that think's of 3 putt, then you will..
That's why he's on tour and has 000,000's in the bank and we are not...

Re: those pressure putts....
You miss putts......the world keeps turning. Its quite a bad mistake to dwell on just one putt, especially a pressure putt. If you look back through every round I am sure you will find a handful of shots that were wasted. The important thing is to learn from it.
Theres no substitute for standing on the putting green and hitting a couple of hundred 3 footers until you are comfy with the shot, just like when you bash balls with the driver or the 7 iron. If you groove the full swing why not the 3 foot putter swing?
Spend that half your practice hour practicing chipping and putting rather than crashing balls into the blue yonder and I guarantee that you will shoot better numbers. next time out.
