I have taken note of my putts in the last 3 rounds I have played (after the game) - and in all 3 I have had 43 putts - uncanny...
Some of this is because of bad approach chips leaving me in poor positions, or putting from the fringe and messing it up - but still, it's not good putting.
I was wondering. What is the "average" amount of putts per round. The fact is I'm not going to hit that many greens in regulation - I'm generally about 25 shots over par (whatever sort of handicap that would equate to).
But is it realistic for me to try and break 40 putts or aim to break 36 putts - even on a bad day - or is 43 pretty okay?
Because I'm walking off with a 96 (very happy with it) and thinking "will I ever be able to break 90". Then when i count up the putts and getting 43, then I say to myself - 36 putts at 2 putting on every hole and you would have had an 89 out there today. NO swing changes, NO extra yards, NO course management, NO better clubs, etc. just putt okay
