Hinging the wrist during the putting stroke

My left wrist breaks during my putting stroke. Is this a bad thing ?

Maybe it's nerves but I find it hard to stop doing it.

My putting is the worst part of my game at the moment.

And this explains it. No hinge at all is absoutly required for a consistant putting stroke. Practice cross handed for a while (1 or 2 hours, and then play 2-3 rounds like that, you will really feel what it should be like, then if you want go back to standard grip, try to keep that "locked wrists" feeling).

I thought as much but I find putting without the wrist hinge very difficult !

Are there any putting grips or styles that help with this hinging wrist problem ?

You could try putting with the left hand below the right as Greg suggests. That should take the hinge right out of it.

Does anybody remember the way Bernhard Langer used to putt years ago. He held the putter in his left hand as normal and then placed this right hand on his left arm. His right hand never touched the putter. I've never seen anybody use this again and he went onto the long putter.

IIRC, he actually locked the handle of the putter against his left forearm with his right hand, but I can be wrong. Anyway, I've seen a few player using that technique. None of them were very good putters...

The craw grip and variations will also reduce any wrist action in putting.
