  • How to get out easily in shallow sand.

Hi all, I've recently been having problems with bunkers on my home course. The sand is very shallow, and using a classic bunker swing, I'm tending to thin the ball hitting it 30yds. I recently played at the famous 'Woodhall Spa' in Lincolnshire, and the bunkers on the Hotchkin are about 6 - 13ft deep. However, the sand was lovely, and I was getting the ball up an out much easier.

Any tips for playing out of shallow sand?

    Thanks.

    Lee.

Keep your hands ahead of the ball
Keep your weight biased towards the front foot.
Get a feel for the sand by working your feet down into it.
Dont open the club face too much, it increases the bounce.
Consider using a PW/LW (a club with less bounce, designed to dig into the ground)
