Is it best to lean the shaft of your putter to the left if your right handed or straight or to the right?

whatever gets the ball in the hole. Putting is very individual. The standard approach to putting in the modern era is to avoid wrist motion and use a pendulum motion of the shoulders keeping the hands and wrist still. Putter head should move same distance back and through depending on the lenght of the putt. In general, the head should strike the ball at the bottom of the swing so you are not hitting down or up on the ball. -

I would never lean the handle to the right, as this would increase the loft of the face. This could cause the balll to hop. If you lean the handle to the left on todays manicured greens, you would tend to drive the ball into the ground. This leaves the straight handle for todays pendulum, no wrist stroke. Now, if you if you are on a rough green that is over due for a trimming, try leaning the handle to the left, and contact the ball above it's equator, with the top half of the putter face, then compare it with your normal stroke. One should/will roll better than the other. GJSComment
