  • Backspin and Practice

I have read the other replies made concerning backspin , but the position in which you hit the ball with the club is not mentioned and how much power .

When hitting a shot with backspin is taking a divet necessary and if so how do you do it ?

    Thanks Very Much

    Mike,

A check for the ball position for an individual is to take a few practice swings next to the ball. Make sure you make contact with the ground. Where the divot starts is where you want the front of the ball. Another thing to check is to ensure the front edge of the club is under the ball, coozy it under slightly.

The golf swing should go no faster than gravity will allow. You can force a shot, but if you swing with gravity and use your lofts to your advantage you will hit better shots. To understand this better, stand without a club with your arms at shoulder height. Drop your arms to you sides by completely loosening the shoulder muscles. That is the speed of the golf swing.

    Hope this helps,
