    Re: Glove or no Glove

Since regripping my clubs I find that I neither need nor want a glove anymore. I always used to wear one. The new grips are a tad larger, and the rubber is not at all slippery, so my hand makes good contact, with no feeling of slippage.

You guys over the in States may not be familiar with rain, but I just completed a 75 in the pouring rain!!!!(Absolutely delighted with my golf today) And my point. I was 1 over after 9 and then my grips started getting wet, couldn't hit my drives where I wanted . It was pretty much a strugglle. And it was my right hand (I'm a right-hander) that was slipping. So tomorrow I'm off to the pro-shop for a right-handed glove for when it's raining.

i wear a glove when i need to, i take it off to putt because it is hot and i want my hand to breath and that is a time that i don't need a glove so i take it off. but i need a glove for my big hits when it is cooler i just leave my glove on the whole time.

Yup ... that's what I do as well. It makes the 'feeling' of the grip different, and thus ensures that I don't take my full swing grip because that would feel strange.

          It's purely mental.

I also take of my sunglasses when putting. Not while reading the greens, but while actually performing the stroke. I found that slight distortion in the lense made it feel like I wasn't lining up right once I was over the ball. My vision out of the corner of my eye being slightly distorted.

            Re: Glove or no Glove

I've actually played my last 4 rounds without a glove (save raingloves when it's raining).

I happened to wear out both my SMT gloves... so they're both in the mail. But I find I have more confidence in my grip when I can clearly see my hands. Go figure.

I wear a glove when it is a little wet out. Any other time I don't bother. If you've got good grips your hand will not slip anyway. Also, I never wear a glove when putting regardless of the weather.

When it comes down to the glove itself, I buy the smallest glove I can get on my hand. The tighter the better. I'd say I've got average size hands (wedding band is size 10) but both gloves in my bag right now are size small.

                Re: Glove or no Glove

I don't use gloves at all except in colder, rainy weather which I tend to try, and stay away from.

On another note, I had a good laugh one time when I saw another golfer wearing what appeared to be bar-b-que mittens between shots. He said he used the mits to keep his hands warm, and due to their size they were easy to put on, and remove. About the 5th hole my hands were pretty much to cold to effectively golf. It was a cold windy day, and he took pity on me, and let me wear his mits off /on for a few holes. I was laughing no more. A visit to a dollar store after that round, where I purchased a couple of these mittens, (under $3.00 for a pair) and I have never had cold hands again while on a golf course. GJS

For me, I wear the glove the whole time. A well fitted glove allows me to lighten my grip as I have better contact with the grip. I've tried pulling it off for putting, but found that I didn't I like the feel. It's all individual I guess...

                    Re: Glove or no Glove

Well I wear my glove for the whole game. The reason I use it for chipping & putting is because I tend to have sweaty palms in comps due to nerves. I have found if I dont wear one then my left hand grip slips causing me to duff my shots, which you dont want to do specially when the preasure is on.

                    Cheers

                      Re: Glove or no Glove

I did not wear a glove for a long time. But then I started going to the range to work on my game in recent years and it became essential. I live in an area where it gets very hot and very humid. I also sweat more than the average person I think. I just cannot hit a lot of balls when the weather becomes . Same when I play a round in the hot weather. I often have to change gloves midway through the round because it gets so wet. I also do not like to take the glove off once I put it on because I am lazy that way. I absolutely cannot play in the rain without them and we get a lot of rain around here too.

                        Re: Glove or no Glove

the only times i don't wear a glove is when i'm putting, or i want a bit of extra feel when chipping or lobbing a shot close to teh green.

other times i need it is with new clubs, the grips hurt my hands.

but i play just as well without one throughout my entire round.
