  • Right hand drill helps stop sha*!king

Have been trying out Greg's right hand drill for the past two weeks and - it has improved my short game tremendously, 80 yards and in used to be my weak area, but I am now catching the ball so much more crisply and hittings those greens more often, once that angle is set in the right wrist and you are used to it - it just inspires confidence.

An unexpected bonus is that it seems to have stopped my occasional sha**ks too! (probably due to the club arriving on the correct path now)

I have a bit more trouble maintaining the wrist set on the longer clubs 3,4, irons, but I think this will come with more practice, when I do get it right, the ball strike is so pure its like night and day from how it was before - adds 20 yards to each club plus, as Greg says - ungodly accuracy!!

Greg, my thanks to you for this great tip!

Can you confirm the grip for all clubs, ie. left hand club diagonally across left hand from fat pad on little finger side to index finger with "V" pointing somewhere between right chin and right collar bone with a cup in the left wrist; then, place the right hand on club opposite left hand even more in fingers but so gap running midway through right hand to wrist covers left thumb and one can push down with right hand directly onto the left thumb onto the club.
Just want to make sure I understand but any pictures would be helpful, not sure if they are in site or not.
Thanks, Greg, great site and I appreciate it.

does this type of position apply to all clubs..i.e. drivers...or is this just something to do with ur irons?

Go to the practice range; lay down one club or shaft pointing just left of target along where your feet would normally go and another shaft pointing right about / at that angle to where you are set up.
Now practice swinging inside the diagonal shaft on backswing and down the diagonal shaft on downswing with natural release of hands/forearms.
In other words, swing for right field with a release of the hands-do you try to release:NO, it just happens.
STay down on the shot and make sure you keep your right side lower than the left on setup/address.
Let me know how this works.

I should have mentioned this in my original post but - this 'cupping' of the right wrist MUST be combined with the shoulders rotating past the ball at impact, as others have pointed out, there is no point in cupping the right wrist and hitting the ball with shoulders paralell to the target line - this is what Greg refers to as 'swatting' (I believe)

It is the combination of the shoulders turning through the shot more AND the cupped right wrist which produce so much power and accuracy.

                    Hope this clears things up.
